Chapter 58: The Fading City (23)
There was a door in the middle of the room, and Qin Mubai was playing with a utility knife, a gentle and harmless smile on his lips.
Ye Nianchu: .....
She wanted the person who had spoken to come and take a look.
“Stop the nonsense and find her quickly. Be thorough,” Lin Zhaocheng said, changing the subject.
“I want to find her too. Brother Tianju said that whoever finds her can become a core member of the Shadow Alliance and receive a one-million reward. Who wouldn’t be tempted? The problem is, this hotel is so big, and we don’t have enough people. Finding someone won’t be easy,” the voice said, growing fainter.
Chen Tianju was determined to find her, hoping it wasn’t as bad as she thought.
Ye Nianchu looked at the wooden door next to her and said, “I didn’t expect my whereabouts to be so valuable.”
When Qin Mubai heard this, his eyes grew colder. Should they leave her at the hotel or keep her in sight, despite the risks?
Sensing the change in Qin Mubai’s mood, Ye Nianchu thoughtfully suggested, “Why don’t we go out now and deal with the person from earlier?”
“It’s not difficult, and it’s doable,” she added.
“Sister, I don’t care what others say,” Qin Mubai replied softly, his eyes darkening. “I won’t let anyone take you away.”
Though his words were soft, they were heavy with meaning.
Ye Nianchu nodded softly.
After reaching the fifteenth floor, they took a short rest. Ye Nianchu took a few deep breaths, relieved they were going down the stairs rather than up; going up would have been exhausting.
They would encounter zombies on the lower floors, and the further down they went, the more zombies there would be.
The hotel had backup power generation equipment. With electricity, zombies could be lured away through the broadcasting system, which was their goal.
Although Qin Mubai had mapped out the zombies' locations, they weren’t stationary. They encountered several groups of zombies along the way, avoiding them when possible, clearing and running. They finally reached the kitchen on the second floor.
The zombie dogs in the kitchen noticed them and lunged.
Bang!
The cupboard fell with a loud crash, hitting and bringing down a zombie dog.
A wave of zombies charged in, and the two immediately turned and ran toward the back door.
The staff locker room and break room were on the lower floor, where there were even more zombies.
They had planned to find a place to hide but ended up opening several doors, each revealing more zombies.
The first door was the worst, with the room completely filled with zombies.
The lounge they were currently in was better, with only three zombies, which they quickly dealt with as they entered.
Qin Mubai moved a wardrobe to block the door, but the crisis wasn’t resolved; their situation remained dire.
The zombies outside were slamming against the door, shaking the wardrobe behind it. It wouldn’t hold for long.
The two climbed up the ventilation duct and reached the room with the power generation equipment. After restoring power to some areas of the hotel, they proceeded to the internal system control area.
With the sound of melodious piano music, the zombies were drawn to the upper floors.
This was exactly when Chen Tianju discovered their location.
As Ye Nianchu and Qin Mubai headed to the second floor, Chen Tianju and his group were again blocked on the fifteenth floor, this time by zombies.
Zhao Cheng and Ma Xin ran over, panting. “Brother Tianju, the broadcasting equipment on this floor has been destroyed.”
Chen Tianju’s face was grim as he nodded slightly.
He believed there was no need for Ye Nianchu to leave unless the top floor would no longer be safe and they needed to find a new location.
No one noticed that Zeng Yi, who was standing behind, began to change color. Suddenly, he fell to the ground, emitting a terrifying roar that drew everyone’s attention.
