Chapter 2 (Peachland)

Chapter 2

"It's not impossible," the man across from her said, picking up some food with his chopsticks. "The system doesn’t reveal anything, and there's no response when we ask."

Deng Lan agreed. She had been watching a drama at home, and then, in a blink, she was suddenly in this game.

She couldn’t quit; it felt like a bad deal she had no choice but to accept. She had never seen a game this awful.

Luckily, she was fortunate.

When she met Ding Qi, another new player, Deng Lan was relieved to finally find a teammate. Being alone in the game was scarier than being pulled into it.

"Why don’t we stay near the town exit and, on the sixth day, leave right away at dawn?" Deng Lan suggested.

A hint of sarcasm flashed in Ding Qi’s eyes, but he didn’t show it. He seriously analyzed, "I think the game won’t let us pass that easily. The closer we get to the exit, the more dangerous it might be."

Deng Lan didn’t know what Ding Qi was thinking, but his reasoning made sense. She looked at him with growing trust.

Daiyong Township is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is in a low area. The only exit is a narrow path on the east side.

If danger appears in such a place, there would be nowhere to run.

The conversation at the next table continued, but Ye Nianchu focused on her food. Her expression was calm, and her behavior was graceful.

She had no intention of revealing herself as a player. In her current state, she couldn’t fight anyone. It wasn’t the time to discuss cooperation. Going solo was better.

Sometimes, it’s not the game that’s hard, but the people.

Having paid a high price before, she was much more cautious now.

Sensing eyes on her from behind the bamboo curtain, Ye Nianchu picked up her phone and unlocked it. She pretended to adjust the angle to take a picture of the scenery outside the window.

As a proper tourist, she had to take pictures everywhere!

But the moment she pressed the shutter, the camera screen went black, as if something had quickly flown over the water.

Ye Nianchu's fingers paused. She immediately opened her photo album to check. The picture she had just taken was unusually blurry, and the upper left corner was covered by a thin black mist.

How did this happen?

Even if a small insect had flown past the camera, the picture shouldn’t be this blurry.

She was sure her hand didn’t shake when she took the photo.

And what was that black mist in the picture?

As Ye Nianchu wondered about this, the sky suddenly darkened. Clouds swirled, and large dark clouds blocked the sunlight. Just a moment ago, it had been sunny, but in less than a minute, the weather completely changed.

A strange cold feeling rose and shot up her spine, spreading through her body. Even the air felt icy and bone-chilling.

Looking outside again, Daiyong Township still appeared peaceful, but something seemed different.

It wasn’t the weather.

It was something about the town itself.

Ye Nianchu suppressed the trembling in her heart and flipped through her photo album again, carefully checking each photo. After looking through them twice, the first 52 photos were fine, but the last one stood out.

A sense of danger made her instinctively move her finger toward the delete button.

Translation Update! 🍙 Translation Update! 🍙 ✨ Quick note: English isn't my first language, so please understand there might be some typos or awkward phrasing - I'm doing my best! ✨ Hey everyone, just a quick update: As of today, April 28, 2025 , I want to give you all a heads-up about a few small issues you might come across in the story, specifically with some of the prop names. It's not exactly a typo issue—it's more about changes I've made over time. For instance, I originally used the term 'data concealment number' but later changed it to 'number concealment data.' Since these are just prop names in the story, it's not a major issue for the plot, but I totally get that some of you might find it a little annoying if you're really particular about details. ...

“Bang—” The air trembled, and bright light hit Gu Zhan's eyelids, making him squint. “Patient 707 has been admitted.” A cold female voice sounded. Patient 707? Who? Gu Zhan squinted against the blinding light and realized he was lying down under a surgical shadowless lamp. Next to him stood several people in deep green surgical scrubs, their faces obscured by the light. One of them leaned over to look at him; the blue medical mask covered most of his features, leaving only a pair of narrow, dark eyes visible. He said, “707 has woken up. Administer a sedative.” A syringe pierced the back of Gu Zhan's hand, and the cold liquid flowed in, gradually blurring his consciousness... ... “Crash—” “Bang!” The sound of metal clashing echoed sharply. A metal bed was forcefully pushed away, sliding a great distance before crashing against the wall. Gu Zhan's head struck the bed frame heavily, and the intense pain momentarily brought him back to awareness. Then came the sound of a door ...

The broadcast from the main system echoed throughout the instance. In the pitch-black snowy night, accompanied by the eerie howling wind of the ebony forest, Jiang Yan felt utterly disoriented. The "Hunter" in front of him couldn’t hear the main system’s intrusive voice and was still waiting for his "little sheep" to kiss him. However, Jiang Yan simply reached out, gently touched the demon-like ram horns of the "Hunter," and then unhesitatingly pulled the blanket over his head. Hunter: "...So disobedient." Soon after, a kiss landed softly on the top of Jiang Yan's head. A pair of long, broad hands rested on his waist as the "Hunter" drifted into slumber. Meanwhile, the game forum’s players erupted into an explosive celebration: [I’m dying of laughter! What kind of penalty is this?? It’s my first time hearing such a ridiculous deduction reason!] [“Please immediately kiss the BOSS.” What the heck? Hahaha...] [This will go down...

Jiang Yan ignored 663, curling up under the blanket like a quail. The "Hunter" holding him would occasionally rub his head, seemingly captivated by the texture. Jiang Yan obediently played the role of a "pet." Based on his years of watching horror movies and reading scary stories, he knew that being "clever" or "kind-hearted" in such games only led to quicker deaths. "You still have five days," the Hunter said, savoring the softness and compliance of the person in his arms. His pale, pupil-less eyes glinted with pleasure. Although a sheep's head couldn't show human expressions, it was clear he was smiling. Hearing this, the four people huddled in the cage shivered in unison. Only Wang Yu sat blankly by the edge, tears streaming as he gazed at his lover. The "Cops and Robbers" Game The "Hunter" acted as the cop, giving the players (the "robbers") ten days to escape the forest. If they found t...

In early September, during a Mathematical Analysis class at A University of Science and Technology, the sophomore students were noticeably distracted. The young professor at the podium glanced down and spotted a large group of students engrossed in their phones. Though he wasn’t a high school teacher, he couldn’t help but lament inwardly: “This generation is worse than the last. Even in Math Analysis class, they dare to slack off?” He could already envision the dismal outcomes on the final grades. Clearing his throat somewhat theatrically, he still received no attention. Growing annoyed, the professor resolved to be tough with the grades this year to combat this poor attitude. At the back of the classroom, Ge Zhicheng's heart raced as he continuously refreshed the backend of the academic system's page. What the professor didn’t know was that today was the day for second-year students in the College of Science to be reassigned to dormitories; the assignment list would be post...
