Chapter 54: The Fading City (19)

The people watching from the sidelines gasped in shock as they saw Zeng Yi lying on the ground, drenched in sweat and unable to move. It was clear now why Chen Tianju had so easily given up the top floor.

They realized they couldn’t risk angering someone who could incapacitate others right in front of Chen Tianju.

Ye Nianchu turned and smiled, "Remember to keep your promise and don't cross the line."

The elevator doors closed.

When the elevator reached the top floor, the group finally relaxed and sighed in relief.

---

Back in the room, Ye Nianchu asked, "What was that scalpel for?"

Qin Mubai’s lips curled into a faint smile, "It’s just what you thought."

He explained that if he had wanted to act, no one would have been able to escape, including Chen Tianju. He had used that scalpel before to dissect a zombie dog.

Ye Nianchu gave him a knowing look.

She wasn’t sure why, but she had initially thought he was being bullied.

Maybe it was because his appearance was so misleading that she had forgotten he liked to play in "no survivors" mode.

"They are my sister's old acquaintances," Qin Mubai said, looking at Ye Nianchu with a clear expression, "Will my sister be angry?"

"What do you think?" Ye Nianchu raised an eyebrow slightly. "If you don’t act against them, they won’t make peace with us. Old acquaintances are more like enemies."

Chen Tianju and his team decided to use the 23rd floor as their base.

"From now on, we’ll take turns standing guard. Keep a close watch on the people above and report if you see them coming down."

"Yes."

Chen Tianju looked up at the camera on the ceiling and said, "Ma Xin, bring more people to cut off the camera."

"Okay, Brother Tianju."

Ma Xin led two men and the hotel manager out, while Chen Tianju and a few Shadow Alliance members entered the room.

"I don’t understand why we have to make so many concessions," Chu Yao, trying to control her anger, finally asked.

Chen Tianju had done nothing when someone threw a knife at her.

"Chu Yao, it’s normal not to understand," Chen Tianju sighed. "Even the Alliance Master doesn’t know she’s still alive."

Chu Yao suddenly realized something. Her nails dug into her palm. "She’s the one."

Chen Tianju nodded. "You saw her skills. It would be bad for us to fight her."

"Also, the Alliance Master is in Searle City. I’ve left a mark on the road, and the Alliance Master will arrive in five days."

Until then, he needed to keep the situation under control.

Chu Yao made a non-committal sound and lowered her eyes, hiding her feelings.

---

Evening.

Ye Nianchu wasn’t surprised to see the surveillance footage covered in static. She had expected this once she saw Chen Tianju at the hotel.

The NPC he brought in was likely familiar with the hotel’s layout, making it easy to disable the surveillance.

He probably had the elevators and stairs guarded around the clock to prevent her from going down.

Ye Nianchu switched to the computer page. She had seen from the surveillance of the Searle City exit that a high wall had been built outside. Both people and zombies were trapped inside.

But it didn’t take long for the surveillance to be sabotaged.

With no outside forces coming in, it seemed like Searle City had been abandoned.

Ye Nianchu had spent the past two days trying to get information about the Ativan Council.

In the quiet room, the only sound was the keyboard clicking. After staying up until midnight, she finally succeeded. She opened the file, looked at it, and her expression grew serious.

Now she understood why the game was called ‘The Fading City.’

"We need to plan and get ready to leave here," Ye Nianchu said, rubbing her eyes as she took the water Qin Mubai handed to her.

Chapter 2 "It's not impossible," the man across from her said, picking up some food with his chopsticks. "The system doesn’t reveal anything, and there's no response when we ask." Deng Lan agreed. She had been watching a drama at home, and then, in a blink, she was suddenly in this game. She couldn’t quit; it felt like a bad deal she had no choice but to accept. She had never seen a game this awful. Luckily, she was fortunate. When she met Ding Qi, another new player, Deng Lan was relieved to finally find a teammate. Being alone in the game was scarier than being pulled into it. "Why don’t we stay near the town exit and, on the sixth day, leave right away at dawn?" Deng Lan suggested. A hint of sarcasm flashed in Ding Qi’s eyes, but he didn’t show it. He seriously analyzed, "I think the game won’t let us pass that easily. The closer we get to the exit, the more dangerous it might be." Deng Lan didn’t know what Ding Qi was thinking, but hi

Max-Level Big Shot in the Survival Game

When Ye Nianchu is brought back into the game as a newbie, her bad luck seems to follow her everywhere. As she searches for clues, she heads straight for the BOSS. But stockpiling supplies turns into a crisis as she struggles on the way. "This game is too hard," she mutters. "Maybe all my luck was used up just meeting Qin Mubai." When they first meet, Ye Nianchu sees the boy with a paintbrush and thinks, "This NPC is really good-looking." Later, though, the boy holds a craft knife like a killer, but his smile is both kind and harmless. "Others are just trying to survive," she thinks. "He’s just playing a game. What kind of game is this? Can I report him for cheating?" In this game, players face a peaceful town that suddenly becomes a dangerous apocalypse, songs from the deep sea, a train that disappears mysteriously, a strange rainforest, and a weird sanatorium. "Danger keeps coming. Players either finish tasks to leave or die in t

Chapter 5 (Peachland)

Chapter 5 There were meals available at the B&B, but of course, they cost extra. After dinner, Ye Nianchu went up to the public terrace. From there, she could see the entire town at a glance. Smoke rose from the chimneys along the riverbank, and her gaze fell on the Huanzhen River. On the sixth day, if she couldn't leave this place, the mission would fail. The first day was almost over, and she didn’t have much time left to figure out how to pass the game. As the wind blew through the mountains, lifting her hair and the hem of her clothes, she suddenly noticed a figure. On the other side of the terrace, in front of an easel, sat a young man. He was tall and had a handsome, upright figure. His face was like it had been chiseled by a master sculptor. Pale skin, delicate features—he looked like a portrait come to life. Even from a distance, Ye Nianchu found it hard to look away. The boy held a paintbrush in his hand. His fingers were long and elegant. His clean, gentle appearance

Chapter 11 Some people, curious about the scene, came closer and quickly felt sick. The thought that the fish they had eaten for a midnight snack last night might have come from this river only made their fear worse. "I never want to eat fish again," someone said, shuddering. Nearby, several tourists who had stayed at the same B&B as the deceased, along with the B&B owner, stood together, looking very worried. The person they had shared a meal with just yesterday was now dead. "I saw Deng Lan last night; how could this happen?" Zhou Yun said, trembling. "Boss, did Deng Lan leave the B&B last night?" someone asked. The B&B was small, run by the owner herself, with no other staff except for a cleaning lady. The owner usually stayed at the front desk until locking up for the night before going to bed. The owner, looking pale and nervous, hesitated before answering, "I—I don't know. I didn’t pay much attention." The owner knew Den

Chapter 6 "As for the early clearance, those who got their qualification today might be S-ranked players," Wang Hai said. Wang Hai was still searching for someone, so he couldn’t give more details. Liang Zuo and Zhou Wen felt anxious but tried to hide it. They were beginning to think Wang Hai, who bragged about being a top player, seemed more like a con artist. "You newbies don’t know anything," Wang Hai said, glancing at them. "Since we're in the same game, let me give you a tip. For newbies like you, besides completing the quests, you should avoid top S-ranked players." "If you meet someone else, you might get lucky and clear the game with them. But if you run into one particular player, you’d better be careful." "Who?" Liang Zuo asked, leaning in. "We don’t know his name, but his last name is Qin. He’s an S-ranked big shot. It’s said that in one game round, almost everyone died, not because of the game, but because of him. T
