Chapter 53: The Fading City (18)
Ma Xin felt a bit puzzled. They had all agreed long ago to go to the top floor of the hotel. So why had Chen Tianju suddenly changed his mind?
Chen Tianju remained silent, his face still cold and unreadable.
One of the team members couldn’t stay calm. He recognized the man and woman in front of him as the ones who had betrayed them. He had seen them run into the factory and had remembered their faces, vowing to get revenge if he ever encountered them again.
There was no doubt about it.
“They’re just two people, no matter how powerful they are. Brother Tianju, we don’t understand why you’re making this change. Don’t tell me you’re interested in this woman. She’s the one who led us into the zombie dogs trap the other day and almost got us killed.”
The man spoke angrily, glaring at Ye Nianchu.
The few casual members in their group weren’t part of the Shadow Alliance; they had joined forces with Chen Tianju only temporarily. Chen Tianju was abandoning their plan to reach the top position without any explanation, and now it was being given to someone who had previously wronged them. What was the meaning of this?
Chen Tianju glanced at him and said, “If you have a problem with it, then leave the team.”
The man was left speechless. He still depended on Chen Tianju for survival, and being kicked out of the team would have serious consequences for him.
Seeing this, Chu Yao gritted her teeth.
She and Ye Nianchu knew each other’s backgrounds well.
Although they were meeting for the first time in the game, it wasn’t the first time in reality.
Chu Yao’s deep-seated hostility and murderous intent were well-hidden, and Chen Tianju didn’t notice anything unusual.
However, Qin Mubai did notice. He narrowed his eyes and threw a surgical knife with a cold gleam.
Chu Yao's eyes widened in shock as she couldn’t dodge in time. Zeng Yi, who was standing next to her, immediately stepped in front of her.
The scalpel grazed his arm, drawing a small amount of blood.
Zeng Yi didn’t care about the minor injury since it healed quickly, but he was furious. The knife had been aimed at Chu Yao.
It was clear to everyone that Chen Tianju’s courtesy was only extended to Ye Nianchu, and there was no need to be polite to anyone else.
He looked at Qin Mubai with contempt and said sarcastically, “You don’t even know how to use a knife properly, so don’t try to pick fights or show off. Just stick to being a pretty face and stop looking for attention.”
He raised his gun, aiming it at the teenager’s forehead.
Zeng Yi thought Ye Nianchu wouldn’t confront them directly and intended to scare her into remembering her place.
But Ye Nianchu surprised everyone by kicking him and snatching the gun from his hand.
There was no time for anyone to react, and she showed no respect for Chen Tianju or his team.
By the time Zeng Yi realized what was happening, he felt a sharp pain in his knee and saw the black muzzle of the gun pointed right at his face.
Ye Nianchu’s eyes were cold and fierce as she said slowly, “I didn’t catch what you just said. Say it again.”
Zeng Yi was instantly deflated.
“Chen Tianju, your people have improved,” Ye Nianchu said with a slight smile, her elegance still evident.
As her finger touched the trigger, she noticed the scalpel on the ground and hesitated.
This knife... could it be...
She shouldn’t have thought that these people could bully Qin Mubai.
“It’s my fault for not managing my people properly. It won’t happen again,” Chen Tianju said, unaware of her thoughts, and intervened.
Ye Nianchu had no intention of lowering her gun until Qin Mubai tugged at her sleeve and whispered, “Sister, let’s go back.”
She responded with a soft “Mm,” her tone gentle compared to the coldness she had shown to Chen Tianju and the others.
As Zeng Yi got up, he was unexpectedly kicked down again. This time, he crashed into the wall with a loud thud, indicating the force of the blow. He hunched over, crying out in pain, his face twisted in agony.
