Chapter 52: The Fading City (17)
“Don’t worry, the top floor is safe. Without the noise and smells attracting them, the zombies will quiet down by the 9th or 10th floor at most. As long as we stay quiet and don’t draw their attention, we should be fine,” Cheng Tianju explained in a soothing tone.
The others were used to this routine. Even though the girl wasn't a high-level player, Cheng Tianju and the team took good care of her.
“Brother Tianju, the two people on the top floor are players too, right?” Ma Xin asked.
The hotel manager had said they hadn’t come out, which means they have enough food and water and still have weapons. Their strong position must mean the NPCs don’t dare to go up.
They must be high-level players.
“Are you scared?” Cheng Tianju glanced at Ma Xin.
“No, no, with Brother Tianju here, why would I be scared?” Ma Xin quickly shook his head. “There are only two of them. If they’re not reasonable, it will be easy to deal with them.”
Just then, the elevator display showed “15.”
Everyone tensed and became alert.
“They’re going down to the 15th floor. Stay on guard,” Cheng Tianju said, his brow furrowing.
“Brother Tianju, the 15th floor is the hotel’s open-air western restaurant,” the newly joined hotel manager reported after finishing his bread. He seemed nervous about being left behind.
As the elevator reached the 15th floor, the men inside raised their guns, ready for anything.
The door opened slowly.
Cheng Tianju and the two veteran members of the Shadow Alliance, who were at the back, exchanged worried glances.
It was broad daylight, and this was not a special game.
What was happening?
Everyone fell silent as they looked around.
The woman who had been quiet widened her eyes in shock, matching Cheng Tianju’s surprise.
Ye Nianchu was also taken aback.
In a city of hundreds of thousands, running into these people was quite a coincidence.
Meeting like this was very unusual.
Peaceful coexistence now seemed very unlikely.
“Ms. Ye Nian,” Zhao Cheng’s heart raced. He realized he hadn’t been mistaken that day.
Ye Nianchu clicked her tongue and seemed to smile, “What a coincidence.”
No one on the other side responded.
Others might not know, but some long-time members of the Shadow Alliance recognized the elegantly smiling girl. She was once one of the first S-ranked players in the survival game.
She shouldn’t be here.
How could someone who was supposed to be dead appear here?
You can’t just die and become a permanent NPC; that has never happened before.
“Sister, do you know them?” Qin Mubai asked, glancing sideways.
His voice was gentle, and his expression seemed natural, but his smile had a cold edge.
“Kind of,” Ye Nianchu said, looking at Cheng Tianju.
“Stay three floors below the top and don’t step on each other’s toes.”
Before Cheng Tianju could respond, the girl next to him sneered, “On what grounds?”
There were only two of them, and one looked weak. How dare they make demands?
Did they not understand the situation?
This was a survival game, not real life.
They shouldn’t try to bully others without considering their own strength.
“Chu Yao.” Cheng Tianju frowned.
Chu Yao met Cheng Tianju’s stern gaze and said nothing, reluctantly lowering her head.
Cheng Tianju turned back to Ye Nianchu and spoke again, “Alright, we won’t go up.”
His unusual behavior left the temporary team members stunned.
When have you ever seen a Shadow Alliance master make such a big concession, especially to a woman?
“Brother Tianju, are we really giving up the penthouse?”
