Chapter 32
Ye Nianchu lowered her eyes, her thick eyelashes casting a shadow that hid her emotions.
The difficulty level of this game was a complete mystery.
This was the last test.
No one knew what was happening better than she did.
"Tragic" didn’t even begin to cover it.
If she hadn’t failed that game, she wouldn’t be a novice player now.
Actually, she was even worse than a novice.
There was less than an hour left until the early hours of the sixth day.
The power of the talisman was weakening, and the evil spirits outside started banging on the door again.
The two people in the room were getting ready to leave the B&B.
“By the way, I forgot to tell you my name,” the teenager said to Ye Nianchu. “I’m Qin Mubai.”
He then opened the door.
A chill ran down his spine, seeping into his bones. Black fog had filled the hallway.
Evil spirits were guarding the door. Without the talisman, they would have rushed in as soon as the door opened.
Qin Mubai and Ye Nianchu stepped out of the room. The evil spirits had dry, charred bodies, as if burned by fire, with faces of seven dead players stuck to them.
Their eyes were cold, and their stiff faces wore twisted smiles.
On the other side of the corridor stood the restaurant owner with a blood-stained kitchen knife.
The evil spirits blocked their way, and the talisman might fail at any moment.
The first evil spirit charged at Ye Nianchu.
She glanced at Qin Mubai beside her, her eyes hard to read. With the talisman on her, she was still the main target.
Did she accidentally dig up an ancestor’s grave or something?
The evil spirit was blocked by a faint white light and crashed into the wall, its face knocked askew.
One corner of the talisman shattered.
The evil spirits seemed to realize something and attacked persistently. The two of them exchanged a look and quickened their pace.
They couldn’t outlast the evil spirits; they needed to get to a wider space quickly.
They left the B&B and reached the intersection. Before they could relax, they saw a body hanging from an acacia tree, swaying in the wind.
The body’s neck was unnaturally long from hanging so long, and its deep-set eyes seemed to stare at them.
There was no light around, only the howling wind.
It felt like they were the only ones left in the town, with evil spirits following them closely.
The pattern on the talisman was too blurred to see.
The intersection marked their separation.
Ye Nianchu was heading towards the town’s entrance, while Qin Mubai was going the opposite way.
“Sister, be careful,” Qin Mubai said, giving Ye Nianchu a deep look, his lips still curved up.
“Uh-huh,” she replied, and ran towards the town’s entrance.
A large number of evil spirits, including the restaurant owner, followed her closely.
Ye Nianchu had to run as far as possible before the talisman completely failed. The closer she got to the town’s entrance, the better her chances of escaping alive.
The evil spirits had gone mad.
Qin Mubai watched as Ye Nianchu’s figure disappeared into the dark streets. Without the talisman’s protection, the remaining evil spirits surrounded him.
He didn’t show any of the nervousness a normal player would have.
An evil spirit closest to Qin Mubai reached out with its charred hand towards his eye.
He stood still, and the evil spirit was reduced to ashes before it could touch him.
Qin Mubai casually brushed off the ashes and adjusted his posture. He then continued down the street, a smile still on his face, as if he was just out for a leisurely stroll rather than facing a town full of malevolent spirits.
