Chapter 106

Chapter 106: Lost Song of the Deep (33)

The gate shook from the impact. They were close to breaking through, but if the enraged sirens outside managed to rush in...

Gao Jiang organized his thoughts and said, “We can’t continue like this; we need to fix these devices.”

He wanted to suggest that Ye Nianchu and Qin Mubai go outside to deal with the sirens while he and his team guarded the control room and worked on clearing the area. However, he hesitated to speak up.

Ye Nianchu and Qin Mubai didn’t even glance at him.

Gao Jiang stood awkwardly, feeling helpless. Ultimately, he had no choice but to lead his people into the side lounge, lock the door, and barricade it with cabinets, tables, and other furniture.

If the sirens broke through, it would be disastrous for the two outside.

With the control room now quiet, the sound of the door being hit grew louder. Ye Nianchu pulled her gaze away and leaned back in her chair.

Gao Jiang was right; there could be no more problems with the equipment.

After all the effort to restore it, she wasn’t going to leave it in someone else’s hands. That was out of the question.

As time passed, more sirens gathered outside, knowing that tonight was their last chance.

Ye Nianchu bit down on a piece of candy and glanced at the time. There was still more than half an hour until 4 am.

The sirens outside the control room began searching for other ways in.

The first to give way was the lounge window, which couldn’t withstand the repeated assaults from the sirens.

The sea wind howled through, lifting the curtains and sending shards of glass everywhere. A group of people rushed to block the broken window with anything they could find. Those who were slower had already been marked with several bloodstreaks.

“Damn it! They’re coming in!” someone shouted at the window.

With the lights off in the lounge, the only thing visible was the sirens’ glowing green eyes. The chaotic sound of gunfire began.

Gao Jiang ran to turn on the lights but accidentally touched something cold, wet, and fishy.

Startled, he quickly raised his gun. In his panic, he missed and got a few more wounds on his shoulder. Enduring the pain, he kicked away the siren and turned on the light.

“Quick, move the stuff behind the door!” Gao Jiang shouted.

A few people understood and hurried to move the cabinets blocking the door. When the sirens saw their plan, they surged toward the door. They had to split their forces to fend off the sirens and buy time.

It was incredibly frustrating to realize that their own defensive measures were now blocking their escape route rather than keeping others out.

Outside, the situation in the control room was no better. The sirens had already smashed open the door.

Ye Nianchu and Qin Mubai stood at the door with their long knives ready. They had sensed the commotion in the lounge and probably guessed that the sirens had broken the window to get in.

The gunfire inside had stopped, indicating that the group had likely run out of ammunition.

Before long, the lounge door was opened.

A bloodied Gao Jiang stumbled out, followed by two men who were injured to varying degrees.

They couldn’t let the sirens in.

Ye Nianchu switched guns and took down the sirens that had chased the others out. At the same time, she walked toward the group of fleeing players. Those who had run out in panic tried to hide behind her.

“Get out of the way.”

Her eyes darkened as she kicked down the fastest runner without a second thought; there was no time for hesitation.

Seeing Ye Nianchu, the sirens inside immediately changed their target.

Feeling that with these two drawing the sirens’ attention, they might be safe, Gao Jiang and his group felt a brief sense of relief.

Qin Mubai killed the siren in front of him with a knife and then glanced at a man who had just gotten up. He raised his hand and shot him in the center of the forehead.

The remaining few people’s faces turned pale with fear, and they quickly distanced themselves.

Chapter 2 (Peachland)

Chapter 2 "It's not impossible," the man across from her said, picking up some food with his chopsticks. "The system doesn’t reveal anything, and there's no response when we ask." Deng Lan agreed. She had been watching a drama at home, and then, in a blink, she was suddenly in this game. She couldn’t quit; it felt like a bad deal she had no choice but to accept. She had never seen a game this awful. Luckily, she was fortunate. When she met Ding Qi, another new player, Deng Lan was relieved to finally find a teammate. Being alone in the game was scarier than being pulled into it. "Why don’t we stay near the town exit and, on the sixth day, leave right away at dawn?" Deng Lan suggested. A hint of sarcasm flashed in Ding Qi’s eyes, but he didn’t show it. He seriously analyzed, "I think the game won’t let us pass that easily. The closer we get to the exit, the more dangerous it might be." Deng Lan didn’t know what Ding Qi was thinking, but hi

Max-Level Big Shot in the Survival Game

When Ye Nianchu is brought back into the game as a newbie, her bad luck seems to follow her everywhere. As she searches for clues, she heads straight for the BOSS. But stockpiling supplies turns into a crisis as she struggles on the way. "This game is too hard," she mutters. "Maybe all my luck was used up just meeting Qin Mubai." When they first meet, Ye Nianchu sees the boy with a paintbrush and thinks, "This NPC is really good-looking." Later, though, the boy holds a craft knife like a killer, but his smile is both kind and harmless. "Others are just trying to survive," she thinks. "He’s just playing a game. What kind of game is this? Can I report him for cheating?" In this game, players face a peaceful town that suddenly becomes a dangerous apocalypse, songs from the deep sea, a train that disappears mysteriously, a strange rainforest, and a weird sanatorium. "Danger keeps coming. Players either finish tasks to leave or die in t

Chapter 5 (Peachland)

Chapter 5 There were meals available at the B&B, but of course, they cost extra. After dinner, Ye Nianchu went up to the public terrace. From there, she could see the entire town at a glance. Smoke rose from the chimneys along the riverbank, and her gaze fell on the Huanzhen River. On the sixth day, if she couldn't leave this place, the mission would fail. The first day was almost over, and she didn’t have much time left to figure out how to pass the game. As the wind blew through the mountains, lifting her hair and the hem of her clothes, she suddenly noticed a figure. On the other side of the terrace, in front of an easel, sat a young man. He was tall and had a handsome, upright figure. His face was like it had been chiseled by a master sculptor. Pale skin, delicate features—he looked like a portrait come to life. Even from a distance, Ye Nianchu found it hard to look away. The boy held a paintbrush in his hand. His fingers were long and elegant. His clean, gentle appearance

Chapter 11 (Peachland)

Chapter 11 Some people, curious about the scene, came closer and quickly felt sick. The thought that the fish they had eaten for a midnight snack last night might have come from this river only made their fear worse. "I never want to eat fish again," someone said, shuddering. Nearby, several tourists who had stayed at the same B&B as the deceased, along with the B&B owner, stood together, looking very worried. The person they had shared a meal with just yesterday was now dead. "I saw Deng Lan last night; how could this happen?" Zhou Yun said, trembling. "Boss, did Deng Lan leave the B&B last night?" someone asked. The B&B was small, run by the owner herself, with no other staff except for a cleaning lady. The owner usually stayed at the front desk until locking up for the night before going to bed. The owner, looking pale and nervous, hesitated before answering, "I—I don't know. I didn’t pay much attention." The owner knew Den

Chapter 6 (Peachland)

Chapter 6 "As for the early clearance, those who got their qualification today might be S-ranked players," Wang Hai said. Wang Hai was still searching for someone, so he couldn’t give more details. Liang Zuo and Zhou Wen felt anxious but tried to hide it. They were beginning to think Wang Hai, who bragged about being a top player, seemed more like a con artist. "You newbies don’t know anything," Wang Hai said, glancing at them. "Since we're in the same game, let me give you a tip. For newbies like you, besides completing the quests, you should avoid top S-ranked players." "If you meet someone else, you might get lucky and clear the game with them. But if you run into one particular player, you’d better be careful." "Who?" Liang Zuo asked, leaning in. "We don’t know his name, but his last name is Qin. He’s an S-ranked big shot. It’s said that in one game round, almost everyone died, not because of the game, but because of him. T
