"are we really going to stay in the river channel forever?"
"If that's the case," He Miao chuckled, "then we’re really lucky."
Staying in the river was much safer than venturing into the dense rainforest; it would be hard for other players to launch a sneak attack, and there were fish in the water, solving their food problem.
"Why don't we just stay on the boat?" the crew-cut guy suggested.
They were already inside the game map, so staying on the boat wasn't against the rules.
"I think that works!"
While a few of them discussed, Ye Nianchu quietly observed the surroundings.
The opening NPC had said they were here for an inspection.
Who goes on an inspection without supplies, just a few people?
At the very least, there should be clothes, medicine, tents, and other essential supplies.
And crucially, fire-starting tools.
The rainforest was humid, making it difficult to start a fire by friction, and the thick canopy blocked sunlight, making it nearly impossible to focus sunlight to ignite a fire.
Without fire-starting tools, they might have to endure eating raw food just to survive.
In a corner, there were five large outdoor duffel bags.
Ye Nianchu saw them, and naturally, others noticed too.
They weren’t even plastic teammates before, but seeing supplies made everyone have their own thoughts.
Everyone stared at the bags, wanting to take the supplies, but no one moved.
The first person to reach out would surely become the target of the other six.
Five sets of supplies for seven players.
They were troubled about which two to eliminate.
The NPC raised the megaphone again. "In about five minutes, we’ll be docking. Everyone, tighten your sleeves; there are many insects in the rainforest.
The insects here are not like those in other places. Some are highly poisonous. If bitten and not treated in time, it can be life-threatening."
"How about this? Let’s open the bags and check the supplies first, then we can split them," the tall man suggested.
Ye Nianchu silently pulled her jacket tighter and secured her pants and sleeves.
NPCs’ warnings should be heeded.
"That’s a reasonable approach, but who will check the supplies?" the crew-cut guy looked around.
No one trusted anyone else to check, except for himself.
In this round of the game, every player had their own agenda.
They were all cunning foxes, playing a game of deception.
Ye Nianchu felt uncomfortable on the sidelines without a space.
As the players were at a standstill, the boat suddenly shook.
Everyone quickly steadied themselves; it wasn't their boat that was in trouble, but the one ahead.
Someone fell into the river.
"Ah!!" A scream rang out.
"There’s something in the river! Quickly, pull me up!"
Dark, murky water surged with a splash of red blood. Suddenly, the boat in front capsized and sank.
The docking point was not far away.
The crew-cut guy looked at the river but saw nothing. "What’s happening up ahead?"
"Let’s go check it out together. We can discuss how to divide the supplies later," the tall guy said.
"Okay." Ye Nianchu nodded.
The once spacious deck now felt cramped with the arrival of a few more people; the front boat also had seven players and one NPC.
But before the capsizing, one player had already become a corpse.
They had no idea what was in the water; blood stained the area red, and they were trapped in the middle.
The water here wasn’t deep, reaching only the shoulders of an adult male.
The NPC from the front boat struggled wildly in the water, blood continuously spilling from him, surrounded by many black fish.
The fish were about palm-sized and had a row of sharp teeth.
These were piranhas.
The scent of blood continually attracted them.
Before long, the NPC from the front boat lay on his back in the river, eyes wide open, completely lifeless.
