Ji Mian was tormented by the effects of the drug throughout the night.
As soon as he entered the room, his legs gave way, and he collapsed against the door. In the first half of the night, he could only lean against the door, his thoughts a jumble and his consciousness hazy.
The system's electronic voice would occasionally call out his name; sometimes Ji Mian couldn’t hear it, and other times he heard it but didn’t have the energy to respond.
By the latter half of the night, he began to awaken from his dazed state, and the strength in his limbs gradually returned.
However, his body felt even worse than in the first half of the night.
It felt as if his internal organs were on fire; the breath he exhaled was scorching, and an unbearable desire tormented him to the brink of madness.
Ji Mian tried to relieve himself in the bathroom several times, but to little effect. Afterward, he took a cold shower, continuing until his fingertips were cold before he finally gave up.
Going through all this in Ji Mian’s body was almost equivalent to seeking death.
After leaving the bathroom, Ji Mian chugged down several large glasses of water, trying to quell the burning sensation in his throat. He shivered from the cold and needed to cover himself with a blanket, but the lingering heat in his chest that threatened to flare up again left him feeling a bit helpless. [System, am I going to die?]
[…Not necessarily. Although the original host's lifespan still has a year left, depending on the body’s condition, the lifespan can be extended or shortened within a certain range. For your body, the range is probably one to five years.]
So, it meant that if luck was on his side, Ji Mian still had six more years to live, but if he was unlucky, he might end up opening a new world tonight.
Ji Mian fell silent and wrapped the blanket tightly around himself.
The feeling of death was unpleasant; although he knew he would awaken in a new world again, falling into an endless darkness still instilled a sense of fear.
It had only been a few days since he died in the previous world and arrived in this one. He didn’t want to experience death so soon again.
As dawn began to break, he closed his eyes.
Before falling asleep, Ji Mian silently prayed in his heart, hoping he would wake up as usual the next day.
As lunchtime approached, Lu Ge emerged from his room.
The door across from him remained tightly closed.
He had fallen asleep shortly after returning to his room last night and was completely unconcerned about what was happening outside.
As for how Ji Mian had resolved his situation, that was no longer his concern.
Lu Ge believed he had been more than generous in his actions last night, even though he had hardly done anything good in his life and had even offered to help Ji Mian—who simply didn’t appreciate it.
Nevertheless, he was quite curious about how that sickly person had ultimately dealt with his predicament; he couldn’t possibly have resolved nothing…
…or maybe not.
Given that person's state, it really was uncertain whether he had the energy to find someone.
Lu Ge paused in his steps, suddenly thinking: That sickly person wouldn’t have died in there, would he?
Since he could remember, Lu Ge had been sick no more than twice, and both were just minor colds.
He had never seen anyone like Ji Mian, who looked so fragile that a gust of wind could knock him down. He thought, It shouldn’t be that bad, but what if it is?
“…”
Lu Ge was simply bad-tempered, not a psychological freak.
He turned his head and stared at Ji Mian's door for a while, then took half a step closer and listened intently.
The corridor was very quiet, and the soundproofing of the rooms here was excellent; even if the adjacent room was holding karaoke, it wouldn’t necessarily disturb the guests’ sleep.
Lu Ge couldn’t hear any sounds coming from across the hall.
Tsk.
He stepped forward and knocked on the door.
Two minutes passed, and no one answered.
“…”
Should I just call the police?
But since they were on the sea, calling the police would be pointless.
Lu Ge frowned and knocked on the door again.
After waiting for half a minute, the door creaked open from the inside, the gap just wide enough to reveal the young man’s face.
His skin was even redder than the night before.
“Mr. Lu,” Ji Mian said expressionlessly, his voice hoarse like sandpaper. “Is there something you need?”
Lu Ge paused briefly, raised his hand, and pointed to his ear. “You were coughing last night, and it disturbed me.”
“Mm, I’ll be more careful.”
Then, without hesitation, the door closed firmly in front of Lu Ge.
Ji Mian simply shut the door without reacting to his unreasonable remarks at all.
Lu Ge raised an eyebrow.
It was a good thing that this person was alive.
But he was also running a fever.
Even from half a meter away, Lu Ge felt the intense heat radiating from the young man.
“It has nothing to do with me…” he muttered to himself, turning to leave. Yet his feet didn’t move.
“…”
Half a minute later, Lu Ge’s expression darkened as he knocked on the door again.
This time he waited a full two minutes before the person inside finally opened the door.
“Come out,” Lu Ge said.
Ji Mian looked at him expressionlessly and didn’t move. He had no fondness for Lu Ge, and his tone was far from pleasant. “Mr. Lu, I’m resting.”
Lu Ge let out a cold laugh. “If you want to die, you might as well go back to resting.”
Ji Mian ignored him and was about to close the door again, but an unexpected force blocked it.
Looking down, he saw that Lu Ge's knee was pressed against the door.
In the next second, the door was pushed open by Lu Ge. Half of his body entered the room, with one hand propping up the doorframe to prevent Ji Mian from closing it again.
"..." Ji Mian finally got angry. "Mr. Lu, please leave."
Lu Ge tilted his head and looked at him. "It seems Qin Yan didn't properly introduce me to you."
"What?"
As soon as Ji Mian finished speaking, a sudden force gripped the back of his neck, and his body was pulled forward uncontrollably by that force.
Lu Ge directly dragged him out of the room.
Behind them, the door slammed shut.
Ji Mian: "..."
Lu Ge's hand was still gripping his neck, not letting go.
Ji Mian struggled but couldn't break free from the restraint.
Frowning, he became impatient. "What exactly do you want?"
"I just care about you. I hope you'll see a doctor, Young Master Xu," Lu Ge sighed regretfully, as if lamenting that his good intentions were wasted.
After being repeatedly disrespected, Ji Mian, in his extreme anger, actually calmed down.
"Alright." He stared at Lu Ge for a few seconds before saying, "Since Mr. Lu is so willing, then I'll trouble you to take me there."
"Have you misunderstood something?" Lu Ge raised his chin. "I never said I'd take you. You can go find Qin Yan yourself."
"It's very late. Qin Yan can't possibly be here."
"You can call him."
"Mr. Lu, my phone is in the room."
"Then go in and get it."
Hearing this, Ji Mian gave a gentle smile.
"What a coincidence, my room card is in there too."
"..."
Lu Ge took a step back, alarms ringing in his mind, sensing that he'd gotten himself into big trouble.
Across from him, the young man’s smile remained unchanged, and the schadenfreude was evident in his cold black eyes. "What is Mr. Lu afraid of?"
"Afraid?" Lu Ge nodded. "I am indeed afraid of trouble."
"This trouble is of your own making." Ji Mian leaned against the door, extending his hand toward Lu Ge, signaling for him to come over and support him.
In fact, this gesture was not out of revenge. Ji Mian truly didn't have the strength to walk to the medical area.
His heart rate was frighteningly fast. If he were to walk there on his own, he might not make it halfway.
His hand hovered in midair for a while. Just as Ji Mian thought nothing would happen, another hand, much larger than his, placed itself in his palm.
Ji Mian smiled, "Thank you for your trouble, Mr. Lu."
He slowly started to move.
Lu Ge watched coldly as Ji Mian held onto him with one hand, while the other hand supported himself against the wall, moving at a pace only slightly faster than a snail.
He said, "Do you know what time it is now?"
"I suppose it’s past eleven."
"Eleven forty."
Ji Mian glanced at him, confused.
"I'm still in a hurry to have lunch," Lu Ge said blandly.
"?"
The slender hand holding Ji Mian let go, but in the next moment, Lu Ge grabbed his arm instead.
Lu Ge moved in front of him.
Before Ji Mian realized what was happening, his body was already draped over Lu Ge’s back.
He widened his eyes in surprise, his body stiffened for a moment, but he soon relaxed.
Being carried wasn’t so bad. After all, walking was tiring. Ji Mian thought expressionlessly.
The system was very comforted by Ji Mian's calm mindset.
Its host was finally starting to act like a competent task executor.
While Ji Mian was feeling fine, the person carrying him was not in such a good mood.
Ji Mian was running a fever, his body temperature was high.
His thighs, pressed against Lu Ge’s waist, were burning hot, and because of muscle soreness, they trembled slightly.
——So light. That was Lu Ge’s first thought.
——And so hot.
It felt like having his back pressed against a heated furnace.
And it was summer. Carrying a furnace in this weather was enough to drive anyone mad.
Lu Ge’s back quickly became hot, making him irritable.
At his neck, Ji Mian’s hot breath fanned against his skin, and Lu Ge's neck was more sensitive than other parts of his body.
Lu Ge’s eyelids twitched.
Damn, he thought. He should have just dumped this guy in Qin Yan’s room last night and saved himself all this trouble!
