Chapter 78: Lost Song of the Deep (5)

The sun rose slowly from the horizon, casting a gentle glow across the sea. The deep blue water sparkled under the sunlight, and the sea breeze brought with it the soothing sound of the tides.

It was the fourth day of the game.

After breakfast, Ye Nianchu and Qin Mubai arrived at the port with their suitcases. VIP customers had a special channel and didn’t need to queue for inspection.

Ye Nianchu glanced around at the throngs of tourists.

A young man in uniform brightened upon seeing them. He quickly took Qin Mubai’s suitcase and whispered, “Bro, looking good.”

Just two days ago, they had been working together, and now he was serving VIP customers. He couldn’t help but feel envious. Despite thinking he was good-looking himself, he couldn’t compare to the man next to the rich girl.

“Do you know each other?” Ye Nianchu asked, looking at Qin Mubai.

The young man answered casually, “Of course! I saw you at the port a couple of days ago, Ms. Ye.”

Ye Nianchu studied him for a moment, but his face didn’t ring a bell. She had difficulty remembering faces.

“Not really,” she replied.

Qin Mubai, appearing indifferent, led Ye Nianchu past him.

The young man thought to himself, That aura doesn’t match someone who just handles goods. He always had a sense of danger about him.

The Goni cruise ship was enormous, equipped with a water park and over 2,000 cabins.

With thousands of people aboard, there were probably only a dozen players among them.

As the coastline gradually disappeared from view, the cell phone signal deteriorated until it was nonexistent.

The turquoise-blue sea reflected a magnificent array of colors in the sunlight, and the sky was clear and calm.

Ye Nianchu opened the balcony door to welcome the sea breeze and the sense of relaxation it brought.

But all this was merely an illusion.

The luxury cruise ship was heading toward a perilous journey.

Before setting off, Ye Nianchu had gathered information about the sea area.

The cruise route avoided dangerous zones, and no extreme weather was expected during this period.

Yet, the songs from the deep were unsettling.

As the sky darkened and the sea remained calm, Ye Nianchu prepared a pot of tea on the balcony after dinner in her room.

On the table lay the conch she and Qin Mubai had listened to several times without any clue.

The scientific explanation for the sound in the conch was simply the surrounding noise. However, in special games, science didn’t always apply.

The sound of fish leaping from the sea, accompanied by the silvery moonlight and rolling waves, was eerily beautiful.

The wind picked up.

Beneath the deep blue sea, a faint glow emerged as a creature swiftly swam by.

Late into the night, the sea breeze stirred the waves, and a faint, haunting melody seemed to float in from afar.

It was beautiful yet unsettling.

The entire cruise ship was enveloped in an eerie silence.

The cockpit door slowly opened.

Precision equipment emitted a soft electric hum.

Yet, no one seemed to notice.

---

Day five of the game.

The cruise ship sailed steadily across the sea, white splashes bouncing in the sunlight.

When Ye Nianchu emerged from her room, she found a note from Qin Mubai and her breakfast on the table.

It seemed something had happened last night, and Qin Mubai had gone to gather information.

Ye Nianchu took a sip of milk and put the cup down.

She had a vague sense that something was wrong.

Though she was always alert in the game, she had slept unusually deeply last night.

She blinked and realized it was already ten in the morning, which felt abnormal.

There was nothing wrong with the food on the ship. Was something affecting her?

Ye Nianchu walked to the balcony. The only noticeable change was that the sea water appeared even bluer, and the weather wasn’t as clear as the day before.

Just then, the door opened, and Qin Mubai returned.

Ye Nianchu walked over. “What happened?”

Translation Update! 🍙 Translation Update! 🍙 ✨ Quick note: English isn't my first language, so please understand there might be some typos or awkward phrasing - I'm doing my best! ✨ Hey everyone, just a quick update: As of today, April 28, 2025 , I want to give you all a heads-up about a few small issues you might come across in the story, specifically with some of the prop names. It's not exactly a typo issue—it's more about changes I've made over time. For instance, I originally used the term 'data concealment number' but later changed it to 'number concealment data.' Since these are just prop names in the story, it's not a major issue for the plot, but I totally get that some of you might find it a little annoying if you're really particular about details. ...

“Bang—” The air trembled, and bright light hit Gu Zhan's eyelids, making him squint. “Patient 707 has been admitted.” A cold female voice sounded. Patient 707? Who? Gu Zhan squinted against the blinding light and realized he was lying down under a surgical shadowless lamp. Next to him stood several people in deep green surgical scrubs, their faces obscured by the light. One of them leaned over to look at him; the blue medical mask covered most of his features, leaving only a pair of narrow, dark eyes visible. He said, “707 has woken up. Administer a sedative.” A syringe pierced the back of Gu Zhan's hand, and the cold liquid flowed in, gradually blurring his consciousness... ... “Crash—” “Bang!” The sound of metal clashing echoed sharply. A metal bed was forcefully pushed away, sliding a great distance before crashing against the wall. Gu Zhan's head struck the bed frame heavily, and the intense pain momentarily brought him back to awareness. Then came the sound of a door ...

The broadcast from the main system echoed throughout the instance. In the pitch-black snowy night, accompanied by the eerie howling wind of the ebony forest, Jiang Yan felt utterly disoriented. The "Hunter" in front of him couldn’t hear the main system’s intrusive voice and was still waiting for his "little sheep" to kiss him. However, Jiang Yan simply reached out, gently touched the demon-like ram horns of the "Hunter," and then unhesitatingly pulled the blanket over his head. Hunter: "...So disobedient." Soon after, a kiss landed softly on the top of Jiang Yan's head. A pair of long, broad hands rested on his waist as the "Hunter" drifted into slumber. Meanwhile, the game forum’s players erupted into an explosive celebration: [I’m dying of laughter! What kind of penalty is this?? It’s my first time hearing such a ridiculous deduction reason!] [“Please immediately kiss the BOSS.” What the heck? Hahaha...] [This will go down...

Jiang Yan ignored 663, curling up under the blanket like a quail. The "Hunter" holding him would occasionally rub his head, seemingly captivated by the texture. Jiang Yan obediently played the role of a "pet." Based on his years of watching horror movies and reading scary stories, he knew that being "clever" or "kind-hearted" in such games only led to quicker deaths. "You still have five days," the Hunter said, savoring the softness and compliance of the person in his arms. His pale, pupil-less eyes glinted with pleasure. Although a sheep's head couldn't show human expressions, it was clear he was smiling. Hearing this, the four people huddled in the cage shivered in unison. Only Wang Yu sat blankly by the edge, tears streaming as he gazed at his lover. The "Cops and Robbers" Game The "Hunter" acted as the cop, giving the players (the "robbers") ten days to escape the forest. If they found t...

In early September, during a Mathematical Analysis class at A University of Science and Technology, the sophomore students were noticeably distracted. The young professor at the podium glanced down and spotted a large group of students engrossed in their phones. Though he wasn’t a high school teacher, he couldn’t help but lament inwardly: “This generation is worse than the last. Even in Math Analysis class, they dare to slack off?” He could already envision the dismal outcomes on the final grades. Clearing his throat somewhat theatrically, he still received no attention. Growing annoyed, the professor resolved to be tough with the grades this year to combat this poor attitude. At the back of the classroom, Ge Zhicheng's heart raced as he continuously refreshed the backend of the academic system's page. What the professor didn’t know was that today was the day for second-year students in the College of Science to be reassigned to dormitories; the assignment list would be post...
