Chapter 49: The Fading City (14)
The hotel was well-built with excellent soundproofing, and being on a high floor meant that ordinary sounds didn’t travel outside.
In the room, there was still no movement. The people outside continued to demand entry, stating that if the door wasn’t opened, they would force their way in using tools.
These intruders were clearly determined and would not give up easily.
Ye Nianchu and Qin Mubai moved a heavy cabinet to unlock the door.
Deng, one of the intruders, looked them over carefully, his unsettling gaze fixed on Ye Nianchu. With a smile, he said, “After knocking for so long without getting a response, we started to worry something might have happened. So, we decided to open the door ourselves.”
“You know the situation outside. We’re doing this to ensure everyone’s safety.”
“Anything else?” Ye Nianchu asked calmly, her gaze steady.
Her tone was clear: if there was nothing more to discuss, they should leave.
“Right now, everyone is stuck inside, and the food supply is limited. We can’t distribute it like before. The survivors are being managed on the fifth floor. You should pack up and move down there.”
“No need,” Ye Nianchu replied firmly.
Why should she give up this place?
“I’m warning you, don’t ignore our offer!” One of Deng’s men’s faces darkened.
Those who refused to cooperate would be thrown out of the hotel to fend for themselves. They had already expelled many people in the past two days.
“Watch how you speak. Don’t scare people,” Deng scolded with a forced smile. “Little girl, the hotel doesn’t keep those who don’t contribute. If you want to stay here, you need to show some willingness.”
“There is plenty of food stored in the warehouse, enough for all of us to last a long time, but there are zombies there. It will take effort to clear them out.”
Qin Mubai frowned and softly called out, “Sister.”
“Uh-huh.”
“I’ll go,” he said calmly, showing no emotion.
“No way,” Ye Nianchu replied firmly.
He was either going to clear out the zombies or let them in.
Deng misunderstood their conversation and couldn’t hide his smugness. “It’s natural not to want to put your brother at risk. I understand. But I can’t protect you without something in return.”
He had heard from the surviving staff that the woman in this room was very beautiful. As the hotel’s owner, he had control here.
Although the two didn’t seem like siblings, it didn’t matter to him. As long as he had control over their lives, he wasn’t worried about her cooperation.
It was the first time he had seen such a beautiful woman. If it weren’t for the zombie crisis, he wouldn’t have had a chance with her.
Now money was useless; power spoke through force.
“Either let your brother help clear out the zombies, or...” His gaze turned lewd as he looked at Ye Nianchu with a more sinister smile. “If I become your brother-in-law, I promise I’ll take good care of your brother.”
Qin Mubai’s gaze turned cold and hostile as he looked up. “Brother-in-law?”
The people outside shuddered at the tone.
Before Ye Nianchu could react, Deng collapsed to the ground, his smile frozen on his face.
It happened so quickly.
The henchmen didn’t see when Qin Mubai had taken out the knife.
He moved Ye Nianchu behind him and methodically wiped the blood from the knife with a calm, harmless smile.
But this did nothing to reduce the chilling aura he exuded.
The henchmen’s faces turned pale with fear, unable to move.
“Take the body away,” Qin Mubai said quietly.
Hearing this, the henchmen felt they were only still alive because removing the bodies would be too much trouble.
They instinctively looked at Ye Nianchu, who was holding a gun with an elegant smile and a clear look of hostility in her eyes.
