Chapter 47: The Fading City (12)

Manic zombie dogs were banging loudly on the door outside, their dark, oozing blood mixed with pus sticking to the surface.

The people hiding in the nearby houses let out a sigh of relief. They were glad that two unlucky souls had shown up to attract the zombie dogs, which made it a bit easier for them to breathe. Their confidence began to return.

A few minutes later, when they saw the old factory door starting to give way from the impact, they realized it was a good time to evacuate. Several teams of players moved cautiously, stepping lightly as they crept out to hide in the shadows, waiting for the zombies to rush into the factory.

Contrary to their expectations, the two people inside the factory were not panicking at all. Instead, they appeared calm and composed, showing no sign of worry about their situation.

After all, they had plenty of bullets and a lot of gasoline.

“I was wondering what those two were looking for just now,” Ye Nianchu said, a slight curve on her lips.

Qin Mubai tilted his head, the smile in his deep eyes still present. "I guess they were looking for the antidote."

“There’s an antidote?” Ye Nianchu was a bit surprised.

“Yes, but there’s only one.” As he said this, a deeper meaning flickered in his eyes.

"I've read some of the research materials in the lab," he continued. "There's a chance that an infected person can be cured by injecting the antidote before they completely turn into a zombie. However, that chance depends on how long they've been infected."

This was essentially a chance to save someone in this round of the game.

If the group was indeed searching for the antidote, their luck was truly enviable. They likely learned about it from somewhere else since they couldn’t get into the laboratory.

So far, it seemed they hadn’t found the antidote. The city was so large; it might not even be here.

From a rational perspective, there was no need to act rashly for something uncertain.

That was one reason, and there was another thing she needed to confirm.

Ye Nianchu looked at the door that had been knocked open by the zombie dogs. "Let's go back first."

"Alright," Qin Mubai nodded.

At that moment, a gunshot rang out. The zombie dogs outside were drawn to the sound. Through the crack in the door, Ye Nianchu saw several people at the entrance of the alley with guns, cursing and trying to flee.

They had probably planned to take the opportunity to escape when they saw the zombie dogs surrounding the factory. Unfortunately, they were discovered by the zombie dogs.

Just moments ago, they had watched others being cornered by zombie dogs. Now, they themselves were being chased, jumping around to avoid them.

A white car sped past, and the person inside opened the window and threw out a cell phone, which landed right by the factory door.

The sound of music blaring from the phone caught the attention of the zombie dogs, giving the fleeing people a brief moment to catch their breath.

The door was slammed open to a width of about a palm, and the zombie dogs scrambled to squeeze inside. Their decayed bodies shed chunks of blackened flesh under the pressure of the doorframe, but they no longer felt pain, driven only by their desire to devour the living inside.

Ye Nianchu smiled faintly, gripping her gun as she moved toward the back door.

Qin Mubai, knowing what she intended to do, smiled and followed her.

Ye Nianchu quickly cleared away a few zombie dogs nearby, circled around, and when the other group stopped to pick up their people, she raised her hand and fired two shots. The first hit the car's tire, and the second struck the gas tank.

The screech of tires scraping against the ground from an emergency brake echoed. The white car was forced to a stop, and the zombie dogs swarmed over it.

Qin Mubai drove to the entrance of the alley, and the two of them sped away, leaving a group of people behind, gnashing their teeth in frustration.

“Damn, those two are so cunning. Don’t let me run into them again!”

In the back seat of the white car, a girl frowned but said nothing. The figure of the person earlier seemed familiar, but she didn't get a clear look at their face, so she couldn’t be sure if she had recognized them correctly.

Watching the zombie dogs get further away in the rearview mirror, Ye Nianchu sighed with a hint of regret. Their reaction was quick; if they had been a bit slower, the third shot would have blown up the car.

"Have you seen the antidote before?" Ye Nianchu asked.

From the moment she heard Qin Mubai mention the antidote, she had felt something was off.

Since the antidote was produced by the lab, and he had been to the lab and knew about its existence, there was no reason for him to do nothing.

This was too problematic.

Qin Mubai casually turned the steering wheel, a slight curve on his thin lips. "Still, my sister understands me."

Seeing him like this, Ye Nianchu was sure that her guess was right.

Nine times out of ten, this antidote was a trap, and whoever got it was unlucky.

Chapter 2 "It's not impossible," the man across from her said, picking up some food with his chopsticks. "The system doesn’t reveal anything, and there's no response when we ask." Deng Lan agreed. She had been watching a drama at home, and then, in a blink, she was suddenly in this game. She couldn’t quit; it felt like a bad deal she had no choice but to accept. She had never seen a game this awful. Luckily, she was fortunate. When she met Ding Qi, another new player, Deng Lan was relieved to finally find a teammate. Being alone in the game was scarier than being pulled into it. "Why don’t we stay near the town exit and, on the sixth day, leave right away at dawn?" Deng Lan suggested. A hint of sarcasm flashed in Ding Qi’s eyes, but he didn’t show it. He seriously analyzed, "I think the game won’t let us pass that easily. The closer we get to the exit, the more dangerous it might be." Deng Lan didn’t know what Ding Qi was thinking, but hi

Max-Level Big Shot in the Survival Game

When Ye Nianchu is brought back into the game as a newbie, her bad luck seems to follow her everywhere. As she searches for clues, she heads straight for the BOSS. But stockpiling supplies turns into a crisis as she struggles on the way. "This game is too hard," she mutters. "Maybe all my luck was used up just meeting Qin Mubai." When they first meet, Ye Nianchu sees the boy with a paintbrush and thinks, "This NPC is really good-looking." Later, though, the boy holds a craft knife like a killer, but his smile is both kind and harmless. "Others are just trying to survive," she thinks. "He’s just playing a game. What kind of game is this? Can I report him for cheating?" In this game, players face a peaceful town that suddenly becomes a dangerous apocalypse, songs from the deep sea, a train that disappears mysteriously, a strange rainforest, and a weird sanatorium. "Danger keeps coming. Players either finish tasks to leave or die in t

Chapter 5 (Peachland)

Chapter 5 There were meals available at the B&B, but of course, they cost extra. After dinner, Ye Nianchu went up to the public terrace. From there, she could see the entire town at a glance. Smoke rose from the chimneys along the riverbank, and her gaze fell on the Huanzhen River. On the sixth day, if she couldn't leave this place, the mission would fail. The first day was almost over, and she didn’t have much time left to figure out how to pass the game. As the wind blew through the mountains, lifting her hair and the hem of her clothes, she suddenly noticed a figure. On the other side of the terrace, in front of an easel, sat a young man. He was tall and had a handsome, upright figure. His face was like it had been chiseled by a master sculptor. Pale skin, delicate features—he looked like a portrait come to life. Even from a distance, Ye Nianchu found it hard to look away. The boy held a paintbrush in his hand. His fingers were long and elegant. His clean, gentle appearance

Chapter 11 Some people, curious about the scene, came closer and quickly felt sick. The thought that the fish they had eaten for a midnight snack last night might have come from this river only made their fear worse. "I never want to eat fish again," someone said, shuddering. Nearby, several tourists who had stayed at the same B&B as the deceased, along with the B&B owner, stood together, looking very worried. The person they had shared a meal with just yesterday was now dead. "I saw Deng Lan last night; how could this happen?" Zhou Yun said, trembling. "Boss, did Deng Lan leave the B&B last night?" someone asked. The B&B was small, run by the owner herself, with no other staff except for a cleaning lady. The owner usually stayed at the front desk until locking up for the night before going to bed. The owner, looking pale and nervous, hesitated before answering, "I—I don't know. I didn’t pay much attention." The owner knew Den

Chapter 6 (Peachland)

Chapter 6 "As for the early clearance, those who got their qualification today might be S-ranked players," Wang Hai said. Wang Hai was still searching for someone, so he couldn’t give more details. Liang Zuo and Zhou Wen felt anxious but tried to hide it. They were beginning to think Wang Hai, who bragged about being a top player, seemed more like a con artist. "You newbies don’t know anything," Wang Hai said, glancing at them. "Since we're in the same game, let me give you a tip. For newbies like you, besides completing the quests, you should avoid top S-ranked players." "If you meet someone else, you might get lucky and clear the game with them. But if you run into one particular player, you’d better be careful." "Who?" Liang Zuo asked, leaning in. "We don’t know his name, but his last name is Qin. He’s an S-ranked big shot. It’s said that in one game round, almost everyone died, not because of the game, but because of him. T
