Chapter 37: The Fading City (2)
You can’t beat a hot weapon.
After having a quick meal at the hotel, Ye Nianchu was ready to get more supplies.
Since she needed to travel and transport weapons, her first task was to get a car.
Next, she bought a laptop. By the time she finished, it was already 5 PM.
The city was busiest at night.
Ye Nianchu finished shopping for seasonal clothes at the mall. Then, she drove to another mall to buy off-season clothes.
She liked to be prepared for everything.
At the pharmacy, she stocked up on medications, masks, gauze, swabs, and other medical supplies.
On the way back, she even bought a telescope.
Food and water were scheduled to be packaged and delivered to her room over the next two days.
The suite was spacious and well-equipped, with two bedrooms, providing plenty of room for her supplies.
The view of the city at night from the floor-to-ceiling windows was stunning. If she could stay here forever, it would be ideal, with its great location, environment, and safety.
Ye Nianchu unpacked the supplies, took a shower, and collapsed onto the bed. Collecting supplies had been exhausting.
The next day was still calm.
Ye Nianchu slept in until 10 AM. The hotel’s breakfast was delivered to her door and looked delicious.
A gentle breeze made the pool outside sparkle in the sunlight.
The latest news on TV included: [xx company’s new research project may achieve significant results, potentially accelerating human metabolism and having a major impact on modern medicine.]
And: [The number of patients visiting hospitals for colds has increased recently. Experts advise not to set air conditioning too low in hot weather.]
Everything seemed normal.
Ye Nianchu put down her soup ladle thoughtfully. The game wouldn’t start with a large crisis, but small signs might appear first.
She spent the day at the hotel waiting for her supplies. Water and food arrived from different places, and she looked for weapon sources on the deep web.
In two days, she’d organize her supplies and then arrange for the weapons.
Ye Nianchu hit the final key on her laptop, and the screen showed real-time surveillance of the elevator and corridor on her floor.
It was the weekend, and the weather was less muggy by evening. The sun was setting.
The streets were crowded with people, and no one noticed a crow flying overhead and landing in the old neighborhoods around the city center.
On the third day of the game, all her supplies were gathered.
The fridge was packed with water and drinks, and the freezer had two tubs of ice cream. The food consisted of self-heating fast meals and canned goods that would last a long time.
[This morning at around 6 AM, a middle-aged woman jogging alone in the park was attacked and killed by a wild animal! Due to the early hour and remote location, there were no witnesses.]
[The injuries suggest a large canine was responsible. Police are investigating. Citizens are advised to avoid remote jogging routes.]
Ye Nianchu’s attention was caught by this news.
Searle City was a high-tech place with nearly 300,000 people. This was the first time such a wildlife attack had happened, and it was in a park, not a forested area.
She checked social media, and the animal attack was causing quite a buzz online.
