Chapter 23

The young man stood with his back to the light, his slim figure blending into the darkness. His smile was cold and devoid of warmth, making him look extremely dangerous.

He didn’t say anything and just glanced down at Zhou Yun.

Zhou Yun took a step back, cleared her throat, and said, “You’re a player too, right? How about we team up to clear this level?”

“I have important information to clear the level. If you join me, I can give you clues.”

The young man smirked, his long eyelashes hiding the sarcasm in his eyes.

Zhou Yun thought her offer might not be enough. “Don’t worry, I won’t compete for first place.”

She knew she had no chance at the top spot, even Ding Qi was wary of.

The young man’s smile was cold and unsettling, showing no emotion. His gaze at Zhou Yun was like he was looking at a ghost.

He didn’t respond, making it clear he thought it wasn’t worth his time.

Zhou Yun’s face fell.

The young man seemed ready to kill her.

Did he already know how to clear the level? Was that why he ignored her offer?

The young man walked out of the room calmly, holding a utility knife that glinted under the light.

Zhou Yun’s face turned pale, and she started to shake. She backed up until she hit the wall, with nowhere else to go.

She suddenly realized that knocking on this door was her biggest mistake.

She had considered every possibility except this one.

Negotiating was one thing, but this person was ready to kill without a second thought.

Worse than a game boss!

Just then, the door to the next room opened.

“It’s a bit much to be knocking on doors in the middle of the night,” Ye Nianchu said, leaning against the doorframe and raising an eyebrow at Zhou Yun.

Her tone was anything but polite.

Zhou Yun, looking scared, quickly apologized, trying to make amends.

Just before the door opened, Zhou Yun saw the young man put away the knife.

The young man’s eyes showed a hint of helplessness.

This was not the right time.

Should he deal with this sister too or just toss her back into the room?

Zhou Yun trembled, nervously looking at Ye Nianchu. “I-I’ll leave now.”

She was genuinely frightened.

Ye Nianchu’s eyes briefly showed surprise before she said, “Leave? Who told you to leave?”

Her voice was calm but had an unmistakable edge.

Zhou Yun’s expression froze.

Ye Nianchu turned to the young man. “I’ll handle her.”

The young man nodded and went back to his room. He placed his fingers on the door and said, “If anything happens, just call me.”

Zhou Yun stared in shock at the closed door.

Wasn’t it clear already? What was he doing now?

He had a knife earlier, ready to kill.

Now he looked as if he was the innocent one, and she was the troublemaker!

“Speak,” Ye Nianchu said, stepping closer to Zhou Yun. “How did you and Ding Qi avoid the evil spirits?”

“What, what?” Zhou Yun looked around, clearly confused.

“Playing dumb?” Ye Nianchu smiled lightly, her eyes flashing with annoyance. “I suggest you stop, as I don’t have all night.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Zhou Yun denied it, glancing at the closed door for courage, and tried to push Ye Nianchu aside.

Translation Update! 🍙 Translation Update! 🍙 ✨ Quick note: English isn't my first language, so please understand there might be some typos or awkward phrasing - I'm doing my best! ✨ Hey everyone, just a quick update: As of today, April 28, 2025 , I want to give you all a heads-up about a few small issues you might come across in the story, specifically with some of the prop names. It's not exactly a typo issue—it's more about changes I've made over time. For instance, I originally used the term 'data concealment number' but later changed it to 'number concealment data.' Since these are just prop names in the story, it's not a major issue for the plot, but I totally get that some of you might find it a little annoying if you're really particular about details. ...

“Bang—” The air trembled, and bright light hit Gu Zhan's eyelids, making him squint. “Patient 707 has been admitted.” A cold female voice sounded. Patient 707? Who? Gu Zhan squinted against the blinding light and realized he was lying down under a surgical shadowless lamp. Next to him stood several people in deep green surgical scrubs, their faces obscured by the light. One of them leaned over to look at him; the blue medical mask covered most of his features, leaving only a pair of narrow, dark eyes visible. He said, “707 has woken up. Administer a sedative.” A syringe pierced the back of Gu Zhan's hand, and the cold liquid flowed in, gradually blurring his consciousness... ... “Crash—” “Bang!” The sound of metal clashing echoed sharply. A metal bed was forcefully pushed away, sliding a great distance before crashing against the wall. Gu Zhan's head struck the bed frame heavily, and the intense pain momentarily brought him back to awareness. Then came the sound of a door ...

The broadcast from the main system echoed throughout the instance. In the pitch-black snowy night, accompanied by the eerie howling wind of the ebony forest, Jiang Yan felt utterly disoriented. The "Hunter" in front of him couldn’t hear the main system’s intrusive voice and was still waiting for his "little sheep" to kiss him. However, Jiang Yan simply reached out, gently touched the demon-like ram horns of the "Hunter," and then unhesitatingly pulled the blanket over his head. Hunter: "...So disobedient." Soon after, a kiss landed softly on the top of Jiang Yan's head. A pair of long, broad hands rested on his waist as the "Hunter" drifted into slumber. Meanwhile, the game forum’s players erupted into an explosive celebration: [I’m dying of laughter! What kind of penalty is this?? It’s my first time hearing such a ridiculous deduction reason!] [“Please immediately kiss the BOSS.” What the heck? Hahaha...] [This will go down...

Jiang Yan ignored 663, curling up under the blanket like a quail. The "Hunter" holding him would occasionally rub his head, seemingly captivated by the texture. Jiang Yan obediently played the role of a "pet." Based on his years of watching horror movies and reading scary stories, he knew that being "clever" or "kind-hearted" in such games only led to quicker deaths. "You still have five days," the Hunter said, savoring the softness and compliance of the person in his arms. His pale, pupil-less eyes glinted with pleasure. Although a sheep's head couldn't show human expressions, it was clear he was smiling. Hearing this, the four people huddled in the cage shivered in unison. Only Wang Yu sat blankly by the edge, tears streaming as he gazed at his lover. The "Cops and Robbers" Game The "Hunter" acted as the cop, giving the players (the "robbers") ten days to escape the forest. If they found t...

In early September, during a Mathematical Analysis class at A University of Science and Technology, the sophomore students were noticeably distracted. The young professor at the podium glanced down and spotted a large group of students engrossed in their phones. Though he wasn’t a high school teacher, he couldn’t help but lament inwardly: “This generation is worse than the last. Even in Math Analysis class, they dare to slack off?” He could already envision the dismal outcomes on the final grades. Clearing his throat somewhat theatrically, he still received no attention. Growing annoyed, the professor resolved to be tough with the grades this year to combat this poor attitude. At the back of the classroom, Ge Zhicheng's heart raced as he continuously refreshed the backend of the academic system's page. What the professor didn’t know was that today was the day for second-year students in the College of Science to be reassigned to dormitories; the assignment list would be post...
