Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Thinking about last night's events, Ye Nianchu pulled open the curtain to peek outside.

The sky was covered with dark clouds, looking like someone had spilled a whole bucket of ink over it. Even though it was only a little past three in the afternoon, it felt like dusk.

Ye Nianchu hesitated, then opened the glass door and stepped onto the observation terrace.

With the last bit of daylight, she saw that Daiyong Town had completely transformed. Large peach trees now filled the town, creating a dense forest of branches and blossoms.

The peach blossoms were in full bloom, with petals drifting gently on the wind.

It was beautiful but also a bit unsettling.

She realized that the peach petals she had seen before must have come from these trees. The petals on the ground were now yellow and withered, unlike the fresh ones from before.

In real-world traditions, peach trees are believed to ward off evil spirits. But here, the peach blossoms seemed to be dying.

Ye Nianchu frowned, turned, and went back inside. Staying in her room wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely better than being outside right now.

She quickly grabbed a bite to eat and then, like the previous night, got comfortable with her props, ready for another long night.

The night grew darker, with only the sound of wind rustling the peach petals on the ground. The town was eerily silent.

After a while, she heard footsteps in the quiet corridor. These were real footsteps from a living person, not the usual creepy noises.

Someone was knocking on the door of the next room, much more politely than the evil spirits had.

"Is anyone there?" It was Zhou Yun’s voice.

With no peephole in the door, Ye Nianchu couldn’t see what was happening outside. She could only hear Zhou Yun’s soft voice through the door.

She tried to make out what was being said but only caught a few words: "We, together..."

Ye Nianchu frowned and hesitated. She was surprised to find herself reaching for the door handle.

This sort of thing was something she only used to do when she first started the game. New players often had to face dangers to learn the ropes.

Usually, she would ignore such situations and wait for morning.

Opening the door now could reveal her as a player.

But her identity was already pretty obvious, and others weren’t dumb.

It was a survival game, and getting involved could be risky.

Ye Nianchu was torn but finally decided to open the door. She turned the handle.

---

The corridor was dimly lit, with small insects buzzing around the flickering lights.

Zhou Yun had been knocking for about half a minute and was almost ready to give up when the door creaked open.

The young man stood by the door, his face looking even paler in the dim light.

Zhou Yun was stunned for a few seconds. It wasn’t the young man’s looks that surprised her, but the cold, impatient expression in his eyes, so different from how he seemed during the day.

Translation Update! 🍙 Translation Update! 🍙 ✨ Quick note: English isn't my first language, so please understand there might be some typos or awkward phrasing - I'm doing my best! ✨ Hey everyone, just a quick update: As of today, April 28, 2025 , I want to give you all a heads-up about a few small issues you might come across in the story, specifically with some of the prop names. It's not exactly a typo issue—it's more about changes I've made over time. For instance, I originally used the term 'data concealment number' but later changed it to 'number concealment data.' Since these are just prop names in the story, it's not a major issue for the plot, but I totally get that some of you might find it a little annoying if you're really particular about details. ...

“Bang—” The air trembled, and bright light hit Gu Zhan's eyelids, making him squint. “Patient 707 has been admitted.” A cold female voice sounded. Patient 707? Who? Gu Zhan squinted against the blinding light and realized he was lying down under a surgical shadowless lamp. Next to him stood several people in deep green surgical scrubs, their faces obscured by the light. One of them leaned over to look at him; the blue medical mask covered most of his features, leaving only a pair of narrow, dark eyes visible. He said, “707 has woken up. Administer a sedative.” A syringe pierced the back of Gu Zhan's hand, and the cold liquid flowed in, gradually blurring his consciousness... ... “Crash—” “Bang!” The sound of metal clashing echoed sharply. A metal bed was forcefully pushed away, sliding a great distance before crashing against the wall. Gu Zhan's head struck the bed frame heavily, and the intense pain momentarily brought him back to awareness. Then came the sound of a door ...

The broadcast from the main system echoed throughout the instance. In the pitch-black snowy night, accompanied by the eerie howling wind of the ebony forest, Jiang Yan felt utterly disoriented. The "Hunter" in front of him couldn’t hear the main system’s intrusive voice and was still waiting for his "little sheep" to kiss him. However, Jiang Yan simply reached out, gently touched the demon-like ram horns of the "Hunter," and then unhesitatingly pulled the blanket over his head. Hunter: "...So disobedient." Soon after, a kiss landed softly on the top of Jiang Yan's head. A pair of long, broad hands rested on his waist as the "Hunter" drifted into slumber. Meanwhile, the game forum’s players erupted into an explosive celebration: [I’m dying of laughter! What kind of penalty is this?? It’s my first time hearing such a ridiculous deduction reason!] [“Please immediately kiss the BOSS.” What the heck? Hahaha...] [This will go down...

Jiang Yan ignored 663, curling up under the blanket like a quail. The "Hunter" holding him would occasionally rub his head, seemingly captivated by the texture. Jiang Yan obediently played the role of a "pet." Based on his years of watching horror movies and reading scary stories, he knew that being "clever" or "kind-hearted" in such games only led to quicker deaths. "You still have five days," the Hunter said, savoring the softness and compliance of the person in his arms. His pale, pupil-less eyes glinted with pleasure. Although a sheep's head couldn't show human expressions, it was clear he was smiling. Hearing this, the four people huddled in the cage shivered in unison. Only Wang Yu sat blankly by the edge, tears streaming as he gazed at his lover. The "Cops and Robbers" Game The "Hunter" acted as the cop, giving the players (the "robbers") ten days to escape the forest. If they found t...

In early September, during a Mathematical Analysis class at A University of Science and Technology, the sophomore students were noticeably distracted. The young professor at the podium glanced down and spotted a large group of students engrossed in their phones. Though he wasn’t a high school teacher, he couldn’t help but lament inwardly: “This generation is worse than the last. Even in Math Analysis class, they dare to slack off?” He could already envision the dismal outcomes on the final grades. Clearing his throat somewhat theatrically, he still received no attention. Growing annoyed, the professor resolved to be tough with the grades this year to combat this poor attitude. At the back of the classroom, Ge Zhicheng's heart raced as he continuously refreshed the backend of the academic system's page. What the professor didn’t know was that today was the day for second-year students in the College of Science to be reassigned to dormitories; the assignment list would be post...
