An hour later, they finally found a suitable spot, climbing up a large tree where their view opened up. Just five meters behind them was the toxic mist.
Staying close to the line would prevent being surrounded, and from the tree, they could effectively monitor their surroundings.
Ye Nianchu took out instant noodles, chewing them dry with water. Conditions were harsh, and she was starting to miss the not-so-delicious fish and shrimp they had caught in the stream a few days ago.
At least that was meat; now she could only gnaw on noodle cakes.
“ hiss—”
A faint sound approached slowly. Ye Nianchu paused, seeing a stout and venomous snake crawling toward them, its cold vertical pupils glinting with a bloodthirsty gleam.
Qin Mubai glanced sideways, calmly swinging his knife, and the snake fell in two halves.
They had made it through the morning safely.
On the map, only their position was visible; it couldn’t show whether they were in the tree or the bushes.
Hiding in the tree was great, but there were too many snakes; they had already killed three different-colored poisonous snakes.
Ye Nianchu stretched her arms, loosening up her body.
For ten miles around, there were no signs of people, only insects flitting among the leaves, creating a façade of tranquility.
There were definitely other players nearby, lying in wait for them to emerge. It was now a test of who could be more patient.

On the other side.
A five-person team crouched in the bushes, watching two red dots on the map that were very close to them.
“A whole day has passed with no sign of movement. Those two must be able to squat for ages. My legs are numb, and theirs must be too.” The speaker shifted positions, continuing to crouch.
“Why not shoot into that bush over there? Maybe a blind cat will catch a dead mouse and hit them.” Someone suggested.
He Miao casually spoke up, “If I were them, I wouldn’t hide in a poorly visible bush; I’d choose to be up in the trees.”
These fools shooting randomly would only expose their own positions.
The red dot range was limited, and there were only a few suitable hiding places.
Many players wanted to kill them, waiting for someone else to make the first move so they could take advantage.
Finally, someone couldn’t hold back any longer, raising their gun and firing at a few likely hiding spots.
It was like flipping a switch; the sound of gunfire erupted, and worried about losing out on kills, players didn’t want to fall behind.
Players with fewer bullets carefully chose their positions to shoot again, while those with plenty acted with reckless abandon.
Small branches fell everywhere, and the area was left in disarray.
He Miao crossed her arms, watching the scene unfold with satisfaction.
The tide had turned.
Yesterday, she had been forced into this situation, her points surpassed by others. She had first retaliated against a player with more ammunition, snagging their weapon, then joined a new team and formed an alliance.
---
Ye Nianchu and Qin Mubai hid behind the thick trunk of the tree.
Bullets rained down like a torrential storm, the air thick with the smell of gunpowder, yet the two remained unhurried.
Qin Mubai wore a lazy smile, not the harmless expression he usually showed to others. He accurately calculated the positions and then raised his hand, pulling the trigger. A man fell in the dense bushes.
It seemed they were in the position of prey, but he looked more like a dangerous hunter.
Ye Nianchu sensed the reassurance from his strong heartbeat, a smile lightly gracing her lips. She aimed at the hiding spots of another team, the flash of gunfire signaling yet another player going down.
Still, they faced a bullet crisis; even knowing the positions didn’t allow them to suppress the enemy with firepower like before—every bullet was precious!
Both sides remained locked in a standoff until evening.
