[Wife?!]
[What the hell is this?!]
[Is the god inside Jiang Yan's body referring to Jiang Yan as His wife?!]
Players watching Jiang Yan’s live stream on the game forum were filled with confusion.
The new and old players on-site were also puzzled, exchanging bewildered glances.
Wife? Jiang Yan?
But isn’t Jiang Yan the king's wife?
Jian Hou stared at his friend’s mysterious, eerie green eyes. After a two-second daze, it seemed like he understood something. His eyes widened in shock, and he quickly stepped back, releasing Jiang Yan’s shoulder.
This... this pair of eyes is one of...?!
Jiang Yan’s lips curled into a wicked smile.
This was an expression that absolutely shouldn't appear on Jiang Yan's normally indifferent face, nor should it be on the soft and obedient little prince's face.
However, the main system had set up an "NPC character breakdown" voice announcement.
The game continued.
Jiang Yan moved past the crowd, ignoring Jian Hou who either tried to approach out of curiosity or nostalgia. He reached the giant rat, still entangled by the golden vines.
"My god."
The giant rat stopped struggling and obediently knelt down on the ground.
At this moment, the ruler of the judgment game had shifted from the town’s "master" to the god who now inhabited Jiang Yan's body.
The god snapped His fingers, and the vines binding the giant rat immediately snapped. In a mocking, yet proud tone, He spoke to the rat:
"Go! The judgment continues, my messenger."
"What?!"
The players were in shock!
"Eeek--!!!"
The rat, now a divine interrogator, let out a high-pitched shriek and lunged at the players it had deemed guilty.
The players scattered again!
"Ah--!!" "What the hell?!!"
"Jiang Yan!!"
Jiang Yan was trapped in the god's warm, damp embrace, struggling uselessly as he scolded, "Stop it! If you’re not going to help, then don’t make things worse!"
The god, lost in the blending of souls with Jiang Yan, lazily asked, while the countless round green eyes on the many black tendrils binding Jiang Yan narrowed collectively.
One black tendril lifted Jiang Yan’s chin, and the god said, "I am helping Jiang Yan."
Jiang Yan was forced to raise his head, and what he saw was pure darkness, as if looking into the abyss of the universe. In the dark sky, countless green, flickering stars shone, but upon closer inspection, they weren’t stars.
They were countless green eyes, covering the entire universe.
This wasn’t the universe; it was the god’s body!
Jiang Yan was slightly startled, then heard the god’s voice, soft and deep, speaking gently in his ear:
"Only the guilty can enter this town. Only the guilty are judged, and only they can leave."
"I am helping Jiang Yan make these guilty people confess their crimes, condemning them in the name of god, so that Jiang Yan can find my body and leave the town."
The next moment, Jiang Yan felt several of the god's warm, slippery tentacles enter his body as if trying to tear him apart. The god’s voice, tender and warm, whispered in his ear:
"Jiang Yan just became a god and doesn’t understand how to judge and sentence the guilty. Let me teach him."
As soon as the god finished speaking, the players’ heart-wrenching screams filled the air:
"Jiang Yan--!!"
"Jiang Yan, wake up!!"
Jiang Yan once again saw the players in front of him. At that moment, they were running in circles around the central fountain of the town, desperately escaping from the giant rat that was chasing them, protecting their hats as they ran.
Meanwhile, the veteran players had been trying to use their items to attack the giant rat. Although the effects were minimal due to the dungeon’s enhancements, they still managed to slow the rat's movements.
The new players, protected by the veteran players, were lucky enough to dodge the rat's attacks over and over.
Seeing this, the god said, "When faced with danger, humans, as social creatures, always instinctively protect the weak using the strong, much like ants protecting their queen when faced with fire."
"When large social creatures evolve, it seems like they’ve etched this instinct to protect their kind into their genes. It’s fascinating! But at this rate, it seems impossible to force them to confess their sins!"
Jiang Yan struggled and said, "If you can’t do anything, then hurry up and stop. Make that damn rat give up your body and let us out!"
The god chuckled softly. "It seems that Jiang Yan, now a god, still doesn’t fully understand his followers!"
"The instinctual altruism embedded in the genes to protect others in the species is for the continuation of the group, but for an individual to ensure the continuation of their own genes, selfish genes are necessary."
"To be precise, the altruism in human genes is merely a form of selfishness, a means to ensure the reproduction of their own species, to constantly copy their own genes for survival. I remember one of your biologists once said—"
"From a genetic perspective, humans are selfish."
Looking at the god, whose vast body resembled the universe itself, Jiang Yan's face remained expressionless as he gritted his teeth and said, "Have you been away from being human for half a year? Have you forgotten how to speak human language?"
The god replied succinctly, "In human terms, it means—I'm about to use their nature to force them to admit their sins and kill them all."
Jiang Yan: "?!!"
"The guilty should naturally pay the price."
With that, the god stretched out a tentacle and snapped his fingers.
Snap!
Instantly, dozens of giant rats poured out of the giant red-roofed house—each one was decayed, with countless small rats scurrying in their fur and skin, making bone-chilling "squeak-squeak" sounds.
Seeing the players who were constantly fleeing, they wasted no time in charging at them.
In an instant, the number of giant rats chasing them went from one to dozens!
The veteran players' weakened items had almost no effect on these rats, and the players began to feel powerless.
"You guilty ones, what heinous crimes have you committed?! Why aren’t you repenting and praying to the god?!" Jiekhe shouted crazily as he ran with his short legs.
"Bullshit crimes! I’m innocent!" he yelled. "Help!!"
"I... I can't run anymore..."
The short-haired man was sweating profusely, cursing, "It's all Jiang Yan’s fault! It's all that Jiang Yan! I knew they were in this together! They’re trying to kill us on purpose!"
"Ah—!!"
Just as the short-haired man finished speaking, a giant rat viciously slashed its claws across his back!
The giant claws tore through his clothes, leaving several deep, bone-exposing gashes across his back. The short-haired man screamed in agony, but perhaps due to the extreme danger and the rush of adrenaline, he didn’t fall, instead continuing to run desperately forward.
At the same time, other new players were also being attacked by the giant rats to varying degrees. Although the veteran players weren’t injured, they were visibly exhausted from the physical and mental strain.
Before long, the players found themselves surrounded by the giant rats, the air filled with their terrifying screeches and the cries of the players confessing their sins.
By now, the players were all injured to some degree, with the new players suffering the worst. Blood dripped steadily from their wounds, quickly forming small pools on the ground. They had no strength left to continue running.
Jiekhe panted and said, “Sacrifice!”
“What?” Jian Hou didn’t quite hear.
“Sacrifice one of our companions to appease the god’s anger over humanity’s original sin with this trial and offering.”
The players immediately tensed up, especially the new players.
“This is the only way for the rest of us to survive,” Jiekhe said, shrugging. “Well, for you guys. I’ve been running for years. To be honest, you all should pick one person to stay with me.”
The veteran players fell silent, while Lu Sha turned his gaze to several of the new players.
“No!! I don’t want to die!!” The girl with glasses burst into tears.
The middle-aged man, his arms cut up and bleeding from the giant rat’s claws, held his son tightly and trembled, “No, no... My son is still young... I still need to take care of him...”
The chef lowered his head, remaining silent.
The short-haired man, having taken a solid hit to the back, could no longer stand. The girl with glasses beside him barely managed to help him stay on his feet.
“Wait!” Tao Shi, his blue hair damp with sweat and sticking to his forehead, looked at Jack with a deep gaze. “Just now, it was one rat. You want us to sacrifice one person, but now it’s a whole group of rats. Are you sure we only need to sacrifice one person to get out of this?”
Jiekhe looked in Jiang Yan’s direction and grinned, his smile strange.
“If we hold onto one rat, we’ll have ten minutes to escape.”
“Ten minutes?!”
The players gasped.
“Exchanging a companion’s life for ten more minutes of survival—it’s a fair trade, isn’t it?” Jiekhe said.
The new players’ faces were filled with near hopelessness. They fearfully looked at the veteran players in front of them.
“No, don’t…”
“You... you can’t do this…”
“...”
[It’s over! These new players are definitely doomed.]
[No way... These big shots have never bullied new players before.]
[At this point, who still cares about the new players?]
Jiang Yan watched nervously, and the god’s voice whispered in his ear: “Yan Yan, do you want to guess who your followers will sacrifice?”
Bound by the tentacles, Jiang Yan gritted his teeth and said, “They won’t do that.”
The god laughed and said, “They are a group of criminals. If they could commit serious crimes against their own kind, they would, of course, not hesitate to betray their own kind when they feel threatened.”
“However! Once the trial and punishment are over, everything will be finished.” With that, Yu Xiu excitedly added, “Yan Yan can then hold my corpse and leave, obediently returning to my embrace! Yan Yan, be sure to notice the scars on my body! They're so beautiful!”
Jiang Yan completely ignored the latter part of his sentence, his mind only focused on the first half.
Criminals? Serious crimes?
Jiang Yan frowned.
Since entering this town, whether it was the man in the hat he met at the beginning, or Jiekhe and the giant rat, or Yu Xiu who had transformed into the god of this instance, they had all been talking about “crimes.” At first, Jiang Yan just thought these “crimes” were absurd accusations, part of the system's deliberate attempts to torment and toy with the players.
But now, when Yu Xiu mentioned committing serious crimes against their own kind... Was he referring to Tao Shi and the others indirectly causing the deaths of others during the game?
So, is this what the trial is about?
No! Those new players were entering the game for the first time—a regular middle-aged father and son, a timid girl with glasses, a simple chef, and a short-haired man who was a bit of a troublemaker, but no one who seemed capable of committing such grave crimes...
What exactly is this game judging?! Is it really judging who stole a few grains of rice or skipped a few classes?
Important Notice
We’re currently planning to stop translating this novel, as well as another project we’ve been working on. This decision comes after noticing some readers directing unnecessary negativity toward other translators involved in this and the other novel.
All the novels here originally started as school projects, and we’ve mentioned this several times in our previous works. Since we’ve already completed the courses they were tied to, we were considering wrapping things up.
However, if you don’t want us to stop, we’re open to reconsidering. Let us know your thoughts, and we’ll try our best to continue. Thank you for all the love and support so far! For readers who previously paid, all refunds have already been processed.
Thank you for your understanding!
All translations will be deleted
so sorry to hear about the negativity, i can’t believe people are like that. Y’all are doing an amazing job at translating. i love reading this novel and would love the updates to continue. But it’s up to you in the end, no matter what, it will be fine.
ReplyDeleteTysm I’m taking things one step at a time and will see where things go xx
DeleteGirl don’t listen to the negativity! I love your novel so much, especially since it’s so hard to get the raw 😩💖. Your translation is literally everything to me 🫶✨. Ignore the haters pls
ReplyDeleteYou may purchase the raw from JJWXC :) It's not that pricey unless you're outside the US. We’ll see lol I'm still figuring things out.
DeleteThat sort of treatment is ridiculous and uncalled for. Some people just have too much time on their hands and will do anything to pick at someone and try to get a rise out of them in order to take their unrelated frustration and discontent on someone else. No matter what decision you make I hope you don’t let them have that power and control over you. In the mean time enjoy the holiday season and maybe take a break from translating if that’s what you need to recoup and not let it consume your thoughts and emotions.
