Gu Zhan sat on the bench, turning his head to glance at Mo Tuo, who stood looking out of the window with a faint smile, appearing in a good mood.
Gu Zhan raised an eyebrow. "So, what should I do? Should I just go along with their wishes?"
Mo Tuo replied, "Didn't you want to establish a new Holy Court? Don't forget, your task is still ongoing, and there's a lot for the Pope to do."
Gu Zhan said, "If I'm building a new Holy Court, then I should be the one to define the position of the Pope."
"Theoretically, yes," Mo Tuo agreed, "but the world is like a machine. If one screw is loose, it can cause the whole thing to break down. If you want a specific outcome, you need to keep the machine running first, don't you?"
The smile in Mo Tuo’s eyes deepened.
Gu Zhan furrowed his brow even more.
He regretted ever getting involved with this evil god.
Originally, his only role was to be a collection of the Goddess of Light, resisting the invasion of the evil god, and becoming the Pope. That was enough.
But now, he had taken on a more complicated and troublesome role — maintaining world peace — and the tasks ahead were more numerous and intricate than before.
"Go take a look," Mo Tuo said.
Gu Zhan had no choice but to stand up.
As they walked out, a group of residents were carrying wood across the courtyard.
Upon seeing Gu Zhan and Mo Tuo, their eyes flashed with fervor, and they dropped the wood to kneel before them.
It was strange.
Gu Zhan had once been the Holy Son, standing at the coronation ceremony with the evil god’s avatar hidden under his robe. He had to suppress his restlessness to avoid being discovered, hiding and concealing.
Now, the evil god stood openly behind him, and these people still called him the Holy Son, their fanaticism palpable.
Gu Zhan gave a slight nod and asked them to rise, inquiring about the progress of the construction.
Whenever there were places where Gu Zhan lacked experience, Mo Tuo would remind him. His authority was even greater than Gu Zhan's, and with him intervening, communication was easier, and the results were more to Gu Zhan's satisfaction.
At the end of the day, Mo Tuo had stayed by Gu Zhan's side the whole time. Gu Zhan couldn’t shake the feeling that Mo Tuo was teaching him how to build a world.
That night, after a busy day, Gu Zhan finished his bath and returned to his room, only to find Mo Tuo standing beside his bed, showing no intention of leaving.
Gu Zhan gave him a quick glance. "Why aren't you going back to your place?"
Mo Tuo rarely appeared without a reason. Every time he came to find Gu Zhan, it was either to do something or to do something.
Seeing that Mo Tuo wasn’t doing anything, Gu Zhan wanted to send him away.
But Mo Tuo smiled and said, "I see humans sleep often. What does it feel like to sleep? I want to try it."
Gu Zhan replied, "Lie in bed, close your eyes, and you'll fall asleep."
Mo Tuo still looked as if it was all new to him, clearly never having slept before.
This monster had a mind of its own. Gu Zhan didn’t care and just pulled the covers back and lay down on the bed.
Mo Tuo, standing by the window, also moved toward the bed. Gu Zhan immediately pressed down on the blankets and frowned. "You didn’t wash up. Don’t get on the bed."
Mo Tuo paused.
He looked down at himself. He wasn’t human, so he didn’t get dirty.
Gu Zhan clearly wasn’t saying this because he thought Mo Tuo was dirty.
He simply didn’t want Mo Tuo on the bed.
Mo Tuo pouted and showed an expression of grievance.
Soon, he disappeared from the room. Gu Zhan thought he had given up, so he took out the accounting ledger and began to review it.
The room was dim, and after a while, Gu Zhan’s eyes began to feel strained.
He decided to continue reading it tomorrow.
Putting the ledger away, he lifted the blankets and was about to lie down when he noticed someone beside him. Turning his head, he found Mo Tuo lying next to him.
He had really gone to wash up. His clothes were gone, and droplets of water still clung to the smooth muscles of his chest. His face wore its usual innocent expression as he smiled at Gu Zhan.
Gu Zhan pursed his lips. "You wet my bed."
Mo Tuo paused for a moment, and instantly, he dried the water from his body, even drying the bed linens.
Gu Zhan: "…"
This monster was really determined to sleep beside him.
Gu Zhan silently rolled his eyes, lifted the blankets, and lay down.
Mo Tuo, next to him, was surprisingly warm, his temperature even higher than an average human’s. It felt like having a large cat curled up next to him.
No matter how Gu Zhan turned, he felt uncomfortable. The exposed skin of the monster kept rubbing against him, and he was getting closer and closer.
Gu Zhan turned over, his back facing Mo Tuo. "Can you move a little further away?"
Suddenly, a warm body pressed against his back. Through the fabric, he could feel the steady beating of Mo Tuo’s heart.
Gu Zhan’s limbs were pinned down, completely trapped.
"Mmhm." Mo Tuo said sincerely, "Is this far enough?"
Gu Zhan: "…"
He couldn’t help but curl the corner of his lips and closed his eyes.
The sleep was long, and when he woke up, the sun was just right.
His arms and legs were still trapped, and when he turned his head, he saw that the monster was asleep as well.
Mo Tuo’s breathing was deep, as if he was dreaming of something pleasant. His lips were slightly curled up. Gu Zhan leaned over to look closely, and the monster truly had a face that was perfect for envy.
Long eyelashes cast shadows on his eyelids. His lips were well-shaped, making him seem very kissable.
Gu Zhan bent down and gently kissed his lips. As soon as he did, Mo Tuo woke up. His eyes didn’t open, but he reached out and pulled Gu Zhan into his arms, flipping over and pinning him down.
Only then did Mo Tuo open his eyes. As they opened, they resembled the slit pupils of a snake, blinking twice before returning to normal.
"You stole a kiss from me," Mo Tuo accused.
Gu Zhan touched his eyelids. Mo Tuo obediently closed his eyes and allowed Gu Zhan to touch them.
"What's wrong with your eyes?" Gu Zhan asked curiously.
Mo Tuo said, "It's nothing, it was always like that. I didn't like it, so I changed it a little."
"Do you change it every day?" Gu Zhan asked.
"Well, yes, almost every day. Sometimes when I'm lazy, I'll leave it as is," Mo Tuo said, pulling Gu Zhan's hand and giving him a kiss. "We're even now."
Gu Zhan laughed and pushed him away. "Get up."
It was Mo Tuo's first time sleeping, and his dependence on the bed was at its peak.
He felt that the bed was the real monster. It didn’t have to do anything; just being there made people want to lean into it.
Mo Tuo refused to get up from the bed, and Gu Zhan didn’t bother with him, getting dressed and leaving on his own.
When he walked out of the room, the "monster" was already waiting at the door.
There were advantages to being a monster, like now, when they could skip the time spent getting dressed and washing up.
With Mo Tuo’s help, the construction of the Holy Court was proceeding smoothly.
The town's residents spontaneously organized a missionary department and started spreading the word farther afield. Their methods were relatively peaceful, so Gu Zhan didn’t intervene.
Unknowingly, their followers seemed to be increasing.
More and more people came daily to meet Gu Zhan. Fortunately, the residents were building his residence quickly, or Gu Zhan would have had to meet them in the cramped houses.
Standing in the newly built Dark Holy Court, Gu Zhan sighed, "I wonder if this newly built house has formaldehyde."
Mo Tuo surprisingly knew what that was. He appeared quietly behind Gu Zhan, hugged him, and whispered, "We don’t use complicated chemicals here, so you don’t need to worry."
Gu Zhan turned to look at the complex furniture materials, raising an eyebrow.
They didn’t look like they were made by hand.
Mo Tuo tightened his embrace, sniffing in Gu Zhan's ear, "We have magic."
That’s true.
Gu Zhan wanted to turn and leave, but the person behind him clung to him.
Some followers passed by and saw the two sticking together. They smiled knowingly.
They would say that the God and the Holy Son were a perfect match.
Gu Zhan no longer had so many constraints. Most things were done according to his wishes.
Although, sometimes, Gu Zhan still felt like he was the God’s collectible, but his God had changed to someone else.
This way of life continued for a while, and Gu Zhan almost forgot where he had come from.
One morning, Gu Zhan had just woken up when he heard a commotion outside.
He lifted Mo Tuo’s arm that was draped over him, got dressed, and went out. He saw a group of people arguing and pulling at each other.
The church had only just been established, so there weren’t many rules, and they lived more like a collective.
They usually got along well, so Gu Zhan rarely saw them arguing in such a frantic way.
He stepped forward and asked, "What’s going on?"
One person looked up, and upon seeing Gu Zhan, it was as if they had seen a savior. They immediately knelt and said, "Holy Son! Our goods were hijacked!"
"Hijacked?" Gu Zhan furrowed his brows as he walked down the steps. "Tell me more."
The person explained the whole situation.
Since the establishment of the Dark Holy Church in their small town, their reputation had grown rapidly, attracting many people to trade with them. The town had developed a commercial route that was very lively.
But a few days ago, a group of people had blocked the commercial road, not letting them pass, and accused them of being heretics.
Upon hearing the word "heretic," Gu Zhan immediately knew who was behind it.
He stood on the steps, silent for a moment. Just then, Mo Tuo came out from inside.
He was still groggy from sleep, unaware of what had happened. He didn’t ask, just walked straight up behind Gu Zhan, ready to embrace him.
Gu Zhan felt that he wasn’t the only one who had been assimilated by this world; Mo Tuo probably was too.
He was probably starting to forget that he was a monster by now.
But time always moves forward, and the main plot of the world would always present itself in front of them.
Now was one of those moments.
It was easy to guess that the people who had blocked their trade route were from the Holy Court of Light.
Gu Zhan was also surprised that they had waited so long to show themselves.
He felt a bit irritably restless. Seeing how clingy Mo Tuo was, he couldn’t help but shrug his shoulders and shake him off.
"What’s wrong?" Mo Tuo asked, finally waking up and noticing Gu Zhan’s mood.
Gu Zhan said, "It’s time for you to do some work."
Since his tone wasn’t good, Mo Tuo looked hurt and asked, "Aren’t I your God? Why are you treating me like this?"
Gu Zhan replied, "I’d still rather be the Holy Son of the Holy Court of Light. Why don’t you just send me back?"
Mo Tuo: "…"
Mo Tuo had come to understand Gu Zhan’s personality. Whenever Gu Zhan started rambling like this, it meant he was in a bad mood.
He had no choice but to move away from Gu Zhan and turned to look at the people at the bottom of the stairs, asking, "What exactly happened?"
The followers of the church were more loyal to Mo Tuo than to Gu Zhan.
Because they knew that Gu Zhan was their leader, but Mo Tuo was the one who took action.
After hearing the story again, Mo Tuo nodded slightly and said, "In that case, let this be considered as a declaration of war. Everyone, prepare for battle."
"What?" The followers were all stunned, not expecting Mo Tuo to take such a big step forward.
Gu Zhan was also surprised.
After speaking, Mo Tuo looked back at Gu Zhan.
His brows slightly raised, as if asking for Gu Zhan’s opinion.
Gu Zhan raised an eyebrow and said nothing.
Mo Tuo turned back and asked the followers, "Light and darkness will always clash. If we don’t act now, when will we?"
The followers were momentarily stunned, seemingly intimidated by Mo Tuo’s words.
Gu Zhan knew that with the absolute conflict with the Holy Court of Light, Mo Tuo would definitely take action. Since this was Mo Tuo’s storyline, Gu Zhan decided not to intervene and simply stood aside to watch the excitement.
