Chapter 74: Lost Song of the Deep (1)
Ye Nianchu pulled out a chair and sat down, not saying a word. Her gaze was cold and distant as she looked at the people across from her.
“Speak if you have something to say. Don’t play games,” she said, holding her teacup and glancing at the person across from her with a faint smile, “Mr. Xu.”
“What kind of address is that!” Xu Zhicheng’s expression darkened, “You still refuse to call me Father?”
Ye Nianchu raised her eyebrows lightly and replied carelessly, “It’s good that you know.”
“You—”
“Nian Nian, don’t speak to your father like that. We are still family,” the woman beside Xu Zhicheng interjected. “Your father has something to give you today.”
Remembering the purpose of today’s visit, Xu Zhicheng patiently placed a document on the table.
Ye Nianchu reached out, took it, and opened it. The voice from across the table continued, “I’ve already made my will. All my assets will be yours in the future. Your aunt and Chu Yao, and Chu Yi will only get two houses.”
“Chu Yi is only 17 years old, and his life has just begun. Consider this as us begging you. After all, he is your younger brother.”
Ye Nianchu slightly lowered her eyes and tapped the rim of her cup rhythmically, “I’m listening. Is there more?”
Xu Zhicheng couldn’t guess her thoughts and subconsciously avoided looking at her.
Donating organs does affect one’s future life a bit, but it’s not life-threatening. She had no reason to refuse to help.
“Nian Nian,” the woman said in a slower voice, her eyes glistening with tears, “As long as you’re willing to save Chu Yi, I’ll agree to anything you want, including divorcing your father. What happened before was all my fault, but Chu Yi is innocent.”
Do they think she’s a fool?
Chu Yi’s life has just begun. Is her life supposed to end?
Ye Nianchu couldn’t help but laugh, “Don’t bother. Whether you and Mr. Xu get divorced has nothing to do with me. I’m not interested in seeing your melodramatic old-age love story.”
“I came here today mainly to warn Mr. Xu to be careful with the Xu family’s assets. As I said before, I want the Xu family’s property to change its surname to Ye.”
“You don’t really think I can control the Ye family just because my late grandfather instructed me to, do you?”
“I’ll take what I want on my own. There’s no need for all this. Wills can be changed at any time. Do you think I don’t know your tricks?”
Ye Nianchu picked up the document and threw it back at them, “Goodbye.”
She had already begun to infiltrate the Xu family’s assets, yet Xu Zhicheng was still trying to play these games with her.
“You can’t bear to see your brother die of illness?” Xu Zhicheng shouted from behind.
Ye Nianchu turned around, her tone both justified and dismissive, “I can bear it. What does your son have to do with me?”
Without looking back, she left the private room, ignoring the two sullen-faced people behind her.
Her mother had almost taken her with her when she committed suicide due to depression caused by these people.
Nor did Xu Zhicheng show any reluctance about his wife.
Neon lights flickered on the streets, pedestrians bustled about, and the skyscrapers were adorned with countless shimmering lights.
Ye Nianchu leaned against the car window for a while, then picked up her phone and sent a message to Qin Mubai: [I have some matters to attend to in the coming days. I’ll join the organization after I return from the next round of games.]
He replied almost instantly: [Okay.]
---
The moist sea breeze blew gently, and the endless expanse of turquoise sea stretched out before her eyes. The gentle waves created a melodious tune.
“The Gurney’s international voyage began on June 5.”
Ye Nianchu looked down at the brochure in her hand, the sound of the waves filling her ears. She was at a harbor.
The system’s unchanging electronic voice sounded: [Dear player, you have entered the game world. This game lasts 25 days. Complete task 1 to receive 20 bonus points.]
