Chapter 19 (Peachland)

Chapter 19

The mountain winds howled, rain pounded the ground, and lightning lit up the dark sky.

'Deng Lan' had vanished, and the cold feeling that had gripped Ye Nianchu also disappeared.

After a brief moment of silence, the chaos began. It was as if hell had erupted. Hysterical screams filled the air, and the rain dripping from the eaves took on a strange, red hue.

Not everyone stayed calm. As fear intensified, the spirits hiding in the darkness began to consume people. The more you fear something, the more real it seems. Ye Nianchu had heard footsteps in the hallway earlier. Her fear that the dark shadow from the photo on her phone might come to life had likely made 'Deng Lan' appear.

Through the glass door, she could hear voices from the third floor:

“Don’t come over, don’t come over! Brother Wang, help—”

The last word was cut off suddenly, leaving a haunting silence.

Earlier, when Ye Nianchu was in her room, all the outside noises had been blocked out. Now that the disturbances had stopped, she could hear the real sounds of panic and despair that filled the stormy night.

By the river, where only Deng Lan’s body had been seen the day before, there was now a row of bodies, each in different states of death. But they all had one thing in common: their faces were all skinned off.

On a thick tree by the road, five or six bodies hung in a dried-out state, their faces blurred and unrecognizable. When the wind blew, they swayed like macabre wind chimes.

Anyone who saw this early in the morning fled home, crawling and unable to speak. Over a dozen people had died overnight, both tourists and locals.

The once peaceful paradise now felt like a ghost town. Every house had its doors tightly shut, with white lanterns hung in front. The town's residents finally realized the gravity of the situation: staying here felt like waiting for death.

Yesterday, only one person had died; today, more than a dozen had fallen. With this rising number, fear was palpable. How many more would die tomorrow? Would death come for them?

The fear in the town overshadowed the sadness. More and more people, carrying umbrellas and bags, gathered at the town entrance. The psychological strain had reached a breaking point.

Everyone wanted to leave, but no one could.

Ye Nianchu tiredly rubbed her eyes and looked through the glass door at the distant mountains. After listening to the sounds above, she finally opened the door.

Coincidentally, the teenager from the next room also came out. Unlike Ye Nianchu, he seemed well-rested and in good spirits.

Last night, the second floor had seemed calm. Ye Nianchu wondered if she was being specifically targeted by the BOSS.

Translation Update! 🍙 Translation Update! 🍙 ✨ Quick note: English isn't my first language, so please understand there might be some typos or awkward phrasing - I'm doing my best! ✨ Hey everyone, just a quick update: As of today, April 28, 2025 , I want to give you all a heads-up about a few small issues you might come across in the story, specifically with some of the prop names. It's not exactly a typo issue—it's more about changes I've made over time. For instance, I originally used the term 'data concealment number' but later changed it to 'number concealment data.' Since these are just prop names in the story, it's not a major issue for the plot, but I totally get that some of you might find it a little annoying if you're really particular about details. ...

“Bang—” The air trembled, and bright light hit Gu Zhan's eyelids, making him squint. “Patient 707 has been admitted.” A cold female voice sounded. Patient 707? Who? Gu Zhan squinted against the blinding light and realized he was lying down under a surgical shadowless lamp. Next to him stood several people in deep green surgical scrubs, their faces obscured by the light. One of them leaned over to look at him; the blue medical mask covered most of his features, leaving only a pair of narrow, dark eyes visible. He said, “707 has woken up. Administer a sedative.” A syringe pierced the back of Gu Zhan's hand, and the cold liquid flowed in, gradually blurring his consciousness... ... “Crash—” “Bang!” The sound of metal clashing echoed sharply. A metal bed was forcefully pushed away, sliding a great distance before crashing against the wall. Gu Zhan's head struck the bed frame heavily, and the intense pain momentarily brought him back to awareness. Then came the sound of a door ...

The broadcast from the main system echoed throughout the instance. In the pitch-black snowy night, accompanied by the eerie howling wind of the ebony forest, Jiang Yan felt utterly disoriented. The "Hunter" in front of him couldn’t hear the main system’s intrusive voice and was still waiting for his "little sheep" to kiss him. However, Jiang Yan simply reached out, gently touched the demon-like ram horns of the "Hunter," and then unhesitatingly pulled the blanket over his head. Hunter: "...So disobedient." Soon after, a kiss landed softly on the top of Jiang Yan's head. A pair of long, broad hands rested on his waist as the "Hunter" drifted into slumber. Meanwhile, the game forum’s players erupted into an explosive celebration: [I’m dying of laughter! What kind of penalty is this?? It’s my first time hearing such a ridiculous deduction reason!] [“Please immediately kiss the BOSS.” What the heck? Hahaha...] [This will go down...

Jiang Yan ignored 663, curling up under the blanket like a quail. The "Hunter" holding him would occasionally rub his head, seemingly captivated by the texture. Jiang Yan obediently played the role of a "pet." Based on his years of watching horror movies and reading scary stories, he knew that being "clever" or "kind-hearted" in such games only led to quicker deaths. "You still have five days," the Hunter said, savoring the softness and compliance of the person in his arms. His pale, pupil-less eyes glinted with pleasure. Although a sheep's head couldn't show human expressions, it was clear he was smiling. Hearing this, the four people huddled in the cage shivered in unison. Only Wang Yu sat blankly by the edge, tears streaming as he gazed at his lover. The "Cops and Robbers" Game The "Hunter" acted as the cop, giving the players (the "robbers") ten days to escape the forest. If they found t...

In early September, during a Mathematical Analysis class at A University of Science and Technology, the sophomore students were noticeably distracted. The young professor at the podium glanced down and spotted a large group of students engrossed in their phones. Though he wasn’t a high school teacher, he couldn’t help but lament inwardly: “This generation is worse than the last. Even in Math Analysis class, they dare to slack off?” He could already envision the dismal outcomes on the final grades. Clearing his throat somewhat theatrically, he still received no attention. Growing annoyed, the professor resolved to be tough with the grades this year to combat this poor attitude. At the back of the classroom, Ge Zhicheng's heart raced as he continuously refreshed the backend of the academic system's page. What the professor didn’t know was that today was the day for second-year students in the College of Science to be reassigned to dormitories; the assignment list would be post...
